Galeria Gens
The gens Galeria was a Roman family of Imperial times. The family first rose to prominence under the Julio-Claudian dynasty, but the most illustrious person of the name was the emperor Galerius, one of the heirs of Diocletian, who reigned from AD 305 to 311, although he cannot have been a direct descendant of the earlier family. Branches and cognomina The only surnames associated with the early Galerii are ''Fundanus'' and ''Trachalus'', but it is not known whether they were personal cognomina, or whether they instead represented distinct families within the gens. Members * Galeria Copiola, a dancer during the late Republic. She made her debut in 82 BC, and was retired by 55, but was still living in AD 9, at the age of 104. * Gaius Galerius, prefect of Egypt from AD 16 to 31, during the reign of Tiberius; he was the brother-in-law of Seneca the Elder. * Galeria Fundana, of a praetorian family, was the second wife of the emperor Vitellius, who died in AD 69. * Publius Galerius ...

Galeria Copiola
Galeria Copiola (96 BC – AD 9 or after) was an ancient Roman dancer ''(emboliaria)'' and actress whom Pliny includes in a list of notable female nonagenarians and centenarians in his ''Natural History''. Because of Pliny's notice, Galeria is one of the few performing artists in classical antiquity whose career milestones can be precisely dated. Performance genre The ''embolimon'' (Greek, literally an "insert") was a musical number performed between the acts of a play. In Roman theatre, the ''embolium'' (Latin, plural ''embolia'') in which Galeria specialized was an interlude, probably solo, performed by a dancing girl or ''mima''. The ''embolium'' is treated in modern scholarship as a form of ballet-pantomime requiring turns, leaping, versatility of movement, sudden "freezing," and a particular repertoire of hand gestures. The ''embolium'' interlude was part of the mixed musical-comedy genre called ''mimus''. Roman ''mimus'' was regularly performed without masks, in contrast to ...

Galeria Valeria
Galeria Valeria (died 315) was the daughter of Roman Emperor Diocletian and wife of his co-emperor Galerius. Biography Born to Diocletian and Prisca, she married Galerius in 293, when her father elevated him to the position of Caesar. This marriage was clearly organized to strengthen the bonds between the two emperors. Her name Valeria derives from her father's ''nomen gentilicium'' Valerius and the name Galeria might possibly be inherited from her mother. If so then it could indicate that her father picked Galerius as an heir because he was a relative of Valeria's mother. Valeria was raised to the title of Augusta and ''Mater Castrorum'' in November 308. Since Galerius fathered no child with her, Valeria adopted her husband's illegitimate son, Candidianus, as her own. In her honor, Galerius renamed the province of Upper Pannonia ''Valeria'', which he had improved by draining marshes and removing forests. When Galerius died in 311, Licinius was entrusted with the care of ...
