George Gair
George Frederick Gair (13 October 1926 – 17 August 2015) was a New Zealand politician. He was once deputy leader of the National Party in the New Zealand Parliament, and was considered by many to be a possible contender for the leadership itself. He was known for his polite and diplomatic style, which often contrasted with the political situation around him – Michael Laws described him as "a refugee from the age of manners." Early life and family Gair was born in Dunedin, but moved to Wellington when young. He was a graduate of Victoria University and University of Auckland. He worked as a journalist at ''The New Zealand Herald'' from 1945 to 1947 then travelled to Japan before moving to Melbourne where he worked for '' The Sun News-Pictorial'' from 1949 to 1950 before returning to New Zealand after accepting a position at the ''Auckland Star'' between 1950 and 1952. ''Gair'' is a 1999 Indian Hindi-language action film starring Ajay Devgn, Raveena Tandon, Reena Roy, Amrish Puri and Paresh Rawal, directed by Ashok Gaikwad. Plot summary A child left on the steps of a temple is adopted by a rich man. The child grows up to be rich and successful and generates hatred and envy by others. Vijay (Ajay Devgan) an illegitimate orphan grows up to be a rich industrialist with his hard work. He falls in love with Madhu (Raveena Tandon) who is retired judge Amarnath's (Satyen Kapoor) only daughter. Their love blossoms. ''Gair Rhydd'' (, meaning "free word"; stylised as "gair rhydd") is the official student newspaper of Cardiff University. During Cardiff University semesters, it publishes a free paper once a fortnight. The paper was established in 1972. Gair Mesa
The Mesa Range () is a range of flat-topped mesas comprising the Sheehan, Pain, Tobin and Gair Mesas, situated at the head of the Rennick Glacier in Victoria Land, Antarctica. It was given this descriptive name by the northern party of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition (NZGSAE) of 1962–63. Location The Gair, Tobin and Pain mesas are in the east side of the middle reach of the Rennick Glacier, and the Sheehan Mesa is on the west side. The Monument Nunataks are to the northwest, the Freyberg Mountains to the north, Half-ration Névé and the larger Evans Névé to the northeast, the Southern Cross Mountains to the east, and the Deep Freeze Range to the south. Gair Loch
The Gair Loch is a sea loch on the North West coast of Highland, Scotland. In Scottish Gaelic it is ''an Geàrr Loch'' meaning 'the short loch'. Around long by wide, it leads west to the Little Minch. The B8021 and B8056 run around its northern and southern shores respectively, connecting the villages of Gairloch, Charlestown, Kerrysdale, Shieldaig, Badachro, and Port Henderson. Longa Island lies at the loch's entrance. The Loch has a number of small islands in it, Eilean Horrisdale supported a fishing community in the 19th century. Gair Glacier
The Mariner Glacier () is a major glacier over long, descending southeast from the plateau of Victoria Land, Antarctica, between Mountaineer Range and Malta Plateau, and terminating at Lady Newnes Bay, Ross Sea, where it forms the floating Mariner Glacier Tongue. Exploration and naming The lower reaches and entrance to the Mariner Glacier valley were reconnoitered in December 1958 by Captain John Cadwalader, United States Navy, and two members of New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition (NZGSAE), in a flight from the icebreakers USS ''Glacier'' and USS ''Staten Island'' which were lying close off the south end of Coulman Island, in an attempt to land expedition members on the mainland. Clan Gayre or Clan Gair purports to be a Highland Scottish clan. Origins of the Clan Robert Gayre of Gayre and Nigg (original name Robert Gair), the father of the present chief, created the clan after World War II. He is the chief source for most of the information in the Clan's Wikipedia article, which can be found nowhere else; Robert Gayre invented the Clan and its history. Gayre claimed to be the Chief of "Clan Gayre" and "Clan Gayre and Nigg". The Blackledge-Gair House at 111 Madison Avenue between Brookside Avenue and Waverly Place in Cresskill, New Jersey is one of the Early Stone Houses of Bergen County, New Jersey, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, where its period of significance was given as 1800–1849. Robert Gair was a Scottish printer and paper bag maker who invented the folding carton in 1879. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1839, he emigrated to the United States at age 14. Gair invented the paperboard folding carton by accident when a metal ruler used to crease bags shifted position and cut the bag. Gair found that by cutting and creasing paperboard in one operation, he could make prefabricated cartons.
