Gail Lee
Gail Patricia Lee Jamison (born c. 1944) is a former Canadian curler and golfer from Edmonton. Golf career In her youth, Lee won the Alberta provincial junior girls golf championship in 1959 and 1960. Later in life, she was a member of the 2000 and 2001 senior ladies provincial team, and won the Canadian Senior Women’s Interprovincial Trophy in 2001. Curling career Lee won the Alberta Schoolgirl championship, the fore-runner to the Alberta Junior Women's Championship in 1961 with team mates Jackie Jamison, Jean Samis and Joan Gibson. The team defeated the Southern Alberta champion Betty Plomp rink for the title two games to none in the best of three series. The event pre-dated the Canadian Junior Curling Championships by ten years. After juniors, she teamed up with her mother Hazel Jamison, playing third on her team. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a ''game''; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each ''end'', which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. Myrna McQuarrie (c. 1941 – 2018) was a Canadian curler. McQuarrie and her Lethbridge Curling Club rink of Rita Tarnava, Barbara Davis and Jane Rempel won the 1977 Macdonald Lassies Championship, Canada's national women's curling championship. The 1977 McQuarrie rink went undefeated in their provincial playdowns, and continued their undefeated record into the provincial championship, which they won over 1966 and 1968 national champion Gail Lee. The team represented Alberta at the Canadian national championship, finishing with a 9-1 record to claim the title. Lindsay E. Sparkes (born August 6, 1950 in North Vancouver, British Columbia as Lindsay Davie) is a Canadian curler. She is a three-time Canadian champion, world champion and Olympic demonstration champion. In 1976, Sparkes and her team of Dawn Knowles, Robin Klassen, Lorraine Bowles won her first provincial and her first national championship. In 1979, the team returned to the national championship, and won again. This qualified them for the inaugural 1979 Royal Bank of Scotland World Women's Curling Championship. The team lost in the semi-final to Switzerland. Susan Seitz, née Shields (born c. 1950) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. She is former Canadian champion and World championship silver medallist. Career Seitz grew up in Medicine Hat, Alberta where she was a top junior curler. In 1968, she and her team of Delores Close, Patsy Erickson and Ellen Noble won the Alberta Junior Curling Championships. The event predated the women's Canadian Juniors. Seitz won her first of two provincial championships in 1981, when she defeated Heather Wells of Lethbridge, 7-6. Her rink, which included Judy Erickson, Myrna McKay and Betty McCracken, would go on to represent Alberta at the 1981 Canadian Ladies Curling Association Championship. Canadian Mixed Curling Championship
The Canadian Mixed Curling Championship is the national curling championship for mixed curling in Canada. The winners of the tournament will represent Canada at the World Mixed Curling Championship. In mixed curling, the positions on a team must alternate between men and women. If a man throws last rocks, which is usually the case, the women must throw lead rocks and third rocks, while the other male member of the team throws second rocks. In 2004, Shannon Kleibrink became the only woman to skip a team and win a Canadian Mixed championship. History The Canadian Mixed Curling Championship was established in 1964, with Canadian Breweries as the event's sponsor and Frank Sargent as its committee chairman.
