Gabriella Besanzoni
Gabriella Besanzoni (20 September 1888 – 8 July 1962) was an Italian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano and contralto). Career Besanzoni had her debut at Viterbo in 1911. From 1918 she was a star of the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires, with regular appearances in other South American cities, especially Rio de Janeiro. Her debut in the United States happened in 1919, when she sang Amneris in ''Aida'' with Claudia Muzio, Giovanni Martinelli, and Renato Zanelli. That same season, she starred with Enrico Caruso in productions of ''Samson et Dalila'' and ''La Forza del Destino'' at the Metropolitan Opera. The Metropolitan Opera (commonly known as the Met) is an American opera company based in New York City, resident at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center, currently situated on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Parque Lage
Parque Enrique Lage is a public park in the city of Rio de Janeiro, located in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood at the foot of the Corcovado, on top of which Christ the Redeemer is located. The land was formerly the residence of industrialist Henrique Lage and his wife, singer Gabriella Besanzoni. During the 1920s, Lage had the mansion remodeled by Italian architect Mario Vodret, with interior paintings by Salvador Payols Sabaté. The National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN) listed Parque Lage, on June 14 1957, as a historical and cultural heritage site for the city of Rio de Janeiro. Rodolfo Celletti (1917–2004) was an Italian musicologist, critic, voice teacher, and novelist. Considered one of the leading scholars of the operatic voice and the history of operatic performance, he published many books and articles on the subject as well as several novels. Margaret Matzenauer (sometimes spelled Margarete Matzenauer or Margarethe Matzenaur) (1 June 1881 – 19 May 1963) was an Austria-Hungary-born, later resident in the United States, mezzo-soprano. Giacomo Lauri-Volpi (11 December 1892 – 17 March 1979) was an Italian tenor with a lyric voice of exceptional range and technical facility.
