Gabriel Pop
Gabriel Gheorghe Pop (born 29 March 1998) is a Romanian rugby union who plays at CS Dinamo București in the Liga Națională de Rugby. Club career Pop began his career at ER Galicia, starting at the age of eight. He joined Portuguese side Carcais on 2021, where he spent a season before moving back to Romania to play for CS Dinamo București. International career In 2016 he was selected for the Portugal Sevens team in the Rugby Europe 7s Grand Prix Series Lodz. He was then later selected for the Portugal under-20 squad for the 2018 World Rugby Under 20 Trophy. Where they finished third. In 2022 Pop made his debut for Romania against Uruguay. The 2018 World Rugby Under 20 Trophy was the eleventh annually held international rugby union competition for Under 20 national teams, with host nation Romania, along with seven other sides, playing in a group stage followed by a knockout round to determine a champion as well as promotion to the following years' World Rugby Under 20 Championship. 2023 Rugby World Cup
The 2023 Rugby World Cup is scheduled to be the tenth men's Rugby World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men's rugby union teams. It is scheduled to take place in France from 8 September to 28 October 2023 in nine venues across the country. The opening match and final will take place at the Stade de France, in the commune of Saint-Denis, north of Paris. The tournament will take place in the bicentenary year of the "invention" of the sport by William Webb Ellis. Originally, the tournament was scheduled to last the typical six weeks; however, on 23 February 2021, World Rugby announced an additional week to accommodate the additional rest day requirement for player welfare. This means that teams will have a minimum of five rest days for all matches, optimising recovery and preparation for the tournament. The Liga Națională de Rugby () is a semi-professional rugby union club competition that is played in Romania. History The first Romanian competition took place in 1914 between two Bucharest team's in Tennis Club Român and Sporting Club with Tennis Club Român taking out the first title winning both of the matches by eight and three points respectively. The competition expanded and grew in the 1920s and 1930s (with a peak in the 1970s and 1980s), after Stadiul Român and seventeen more (other) teams were founded in Bucharest-only ever since. The championship took place on an annual basis, with some gap years caused by the two World Wars mostly. The first team set up outside Bucharest (to play the top tier competition) was IAR Brașov in 1939, a team owned and run by the famous Braşov aircraft factory I.A.R.
