Gabriel M. Reyes
Gabriel Martelino Reyes (March 24, 1892 – October 10, 1952) was the 28th archbishop of Manila, and the first native Filipino to hold that post. He previously served as Archbishop of Cebu from 1934 to 1949, and then served as Archbishop of Manila from 1949 till his death in 1952. Biography Gabriel M. Reyes was born on March 24, 1892, in Kalibo, (then a part of Capiz). He entered St. Vincent Ferrer Seminary in Jaro, Iloilo City at the age of 13, during the time of Bishop Frederick Rooker. He was ordained a priest, on March 27, 1915, by Dennis Joseph Dougherty, the then-bishop of the then- Diocese of Jaro. After ordination, Gabriel was immediately appointed coadjutor parish priest of the future cardinal at the Cathedral Parish of Jaro. After a few months Mons. Santa Barbara, officially the Municipality of Santa Barbara (, ), is a municipality in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 67,630 people. Santa Barbara is north of Iloilo City and is part of the Metro Iloilo–Guimaras area. History The Augustinian Archives, Vol. 17–18, which recorded the missionary achievements of the Augustinian missionaries, mentions that in 1617 the missionaries ministered a community then known as Catmon, named after an imposing katmon tree used as a landmark. Roxas (, ), officially the City of Roxas ( Capiznon/; ), is a component city and capital of the province of Capiz, Philippines. Balasan, officially the Municipality of Balasan (, ), is a municipality in the province of Iloilo, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 35,064 people. Etymology Balasan derived its name from "Balas" meaning sand which are still found in abundance along the Banks of Bangon River where the first settlement was founded. History Sometime in 1846, Francisco Ariola, son of the datu from Jolo, together with his men, found themselves in the shores of Carles. He immediately organized the early settlers who later mingled with his men at Punta Bulakawe, a plateau just 330 meters north of the Poblacion (town proper). The Archdiocese of Jaro (; ; ; ) is a Latin Church archdiocese of the Catholic Church headquartered in Jaro, Iloilo City, Philippines. Its episcopal see is at the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, also the National Shrine of Our Lady of Candles, as its seat.
