Gabe Nevins
Gabriel "Gabe" Allen Nevins (born August 26, 1991) is an actor who is best known for starring in Gus Van Sant’s 2007 film '' Paranoid Park''. Career Nevins was cast as the lead of '' Paranoid Park'' even though he was auditioning to be a skateboarding extra. The film premiered at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival as one of the 22 films in the competition, and won the special 60th anniversary prize. He was cast as an extra in ''Wendy and Lucy'' (2008), ''Rachel'' (2010) and '' Some Days Are Better Than Others'' (2011). In 2010, he starred in the short film ''Will''. The photographer Nick Haymes published a collection of photos of Nevins, titled ''Gabe'', in March 2012. It featured photos of him that Haymes had taken since he first met Nevins shortly after the release of ''Paranoid Park''. It was criticized by ''Vice'' as being exploitive. Gus Van Sant
Gus Green Van Sant Jr. (born July 24, 1952) is an American film director, producer, photographer, and musician. He has earned acclaim as both an independent and mainstream filmmaker. His films typically deal with themes of marginalized subcultures, in particular homosexuality. Van Sant is considered one of the most prominent auteurs of the New Queer Cinema movement. His early career was devoted to directing television commercials in the Pacific Northwest. He made his feature-length cinematic directorial debut with '' Mala Noche'' (1985). Paranoid Park (film)
''Paranoid Park'' is a 2007 coming of age teen drama film written and directed by Gus Van Sant. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Blake Nelson and takes place in Portland, Oregon. It's the story of a teenage skateboarder (played by Gabe Nevins) set against the backdrop of a police investigation into a mysterious death. Van Sant wrote the draft script in two days after reading and deciding to adapt Nelson's novel. To cast the film's youths, Van Sant posted an open casting call on social networking website MySpace inviting teenagers to audition for speaking roles, as well as experienced skateboarders to act as extras. Filming began in October 2006 and took place at various locations in and around Portland. The 60th Cannes Film Festival ran from 16 to 27 May 2007. The President of the Jury was British director Stephen Frears.
