GT Devegowda
Gungralchatra Tammegowda Devegowda (born 1949) is an Indian politician from Karnataka. He was the Minister of Higher Education of Karnataka in the JDS and Indian National Congress Coalition government in the Second H. D. Kumaraswamy ministry from 23 May 2018 to 23 July 2019. Career Devegowda started his political career with Congress in the 1970s, and later joined Janata Dal (Secular). Janata Dal () was an Indian political party which was formed through the merger of Lok Dal, Indian National Congress (Jagjivan), and the Jan Morcha on 11 October 1988—the birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan under the leadership of V. P. Singh. History V. P. Singh united the entire disparate spectrum of parties ranging from regional parties such as the Telugu Desam Party, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and the Asom Gana Parishad, together and formed the National Front with N. Siddaramaiah (born 3 August 1947), also referred to by his nickname Siddu, is an Indian politician who is serving as the 22nd List of chief ministers of Karnataka, chief minister of Karnataka from 20 May 2023. Basavaraj Rayareddy (born 6 September 1956) is an Indian politician and a member of the Indian National Congress from the state of Karnataka. Rayareddy is a six-term member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and a one-term member of the 11th Lok Sabha. In June 2016 Rayareddy was inducted into the Siddaramaiah led government of Karnataka as a cabinet minister and was the Higher Education Minister. 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly Election
The 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election was held on 12 May 2018 in 222 constituencies to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. The election was postponed in Jayanagar, Bangalore, Jayanagar and Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bangalore, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, following the death of the MLA B. N. Vijaya Kumar and a voter fraud scandal respectively till 28 May. The election saw a voter turnout of 72.13 per cent, the highest in Karnataka since several decades.
