Granite State Challenge
''Granite State Challenge'' is an American television quizbowl game show that airs on New Hampshire PBS and began in 1983. Description High schools from around the state compete against each other to win "brainy bragging rights" and grant money for their school. The first season of the program was hosted by Tom Bergeron (now of ''America's Funniest Home Videos'' and ''Dancing with the Stars'' fame), one of Bergeron's first jobs appearing on television. Starting in the second season and continuing to 2018, Jim Jeannotte took over hosting duties. Jon Cannon became the host in the 2018-2019 season. GSC is a bus used in many of the HP 9000 workstations and servers. The acronym has various explanations, including ''Gecko System Connect'' (Gecko being the codename of the 712 workstation), ''Gonzo System Connect'' and ''General System Connect''. GSC was a general 32-bit I/O bus, similar to NuBus or Sun's SBus, although it was also used as a processor bus with the PA-7100LC and PA-7300LC processors. Group Switching Centre
A group switching centre (GSC) was a United Kingdom telephone exchange used to provide local and trunk routing to local exchanges within its own and if required, adjacent group areas. Group switching centres formed a component of the trunk mechanisation hierarchy that was commenced in 1939. The concept of group switching centres became important with the introduction of subscriber trunk dialling (STD) in 1958, initially from Bristol central telephone exchange. They were typically located towards the centre of their corresponding group area, usually in a large town or city, and serviced a group of local and dependent telephone exchanges within their home and adjacent group areas. The British network was separated into 639 pricing groups on January 1, 1958. These locations served as the foundation for calculating telephone call tariffs. Genomic Standards Consortium
The Genomic Standards Consortium (GSC) is an initiative working towards richer descriptions of our collection of genomes, Metagenomics, metagenomes and marker genes. Established in September 2005, this international community includes representatives from a range of major DNA sequencing, sequencing and bioinformatics centres (including National Center for Biotechnology Information, NCBI, EMBL, DDBJ, J. Craig Venter Institute, JCVI, Joint Genome Institute, JGI, European Bioinformatics Institute, EBI, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Sanger, FIG) and research institutions. The goal of the GSC is to promote mechanisms for standardizing the description of (meta)genomes, including the exchange and integration of (meta)genomic data. Global Standards Collaboration
The Global Standards Collaboration (GSC) started life as The Inter-regional Telecommunications Standards conference (ITSC) in 1990. This was an initiative of the T1 Committee of the United States who invited the other founding partner organizations ITU-T, ETSI and the Japanese TTC to the first ISC Meeting in Fredericksburg, VA. The goal was set by the “spirit of Melbourne”, stemming from a CCITT Plenary Assembly, to find a way of co-operation between Participating Standards Organizations (PSOs) from different regions of the world in order to facilitate global standardization within the ITU (International Telecommunication Union). The ITSC focussed its work on fixed telecommunications networks. After a few years, the ITSC, as a conference, became too big and was therefore reduced to GSC, the Global Standards Collaboration, with delegations limited to a reasonable size (10 maximum). The General Service Corps (GSC) is a corps of the British Army. Role The role of the corps is to provide specialists, who are usually on the Special List or General List. These lists were used in both World Wars for specialists and those not allocated to other regiments or corps. In World War II, this often included male operatives of the Special Operations Executive (with female operatives usually joining the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry).
