GNC Grip Gauntlet
The GNC Grip Gauntlet (officially ''GNC Pro Performance Grip Gauntlet'') was a strength athletics contest that tested the grip strength of athletes over three disciplines, each designed to test one of the three recognized facets of hand strength: crushing; pinching and supporting. It was developed by brothers Brad Gillingham and Wade Gillingham and became an internationally recognised contest featured at some of the world's most prominent strength athletics events and expos, including the Arnold Strongman Classic and various WSM Super Series Grand Prix's. The last time the GNC Grip Gauntlet was run in a competitive format was the 2010 Arnold Classic. Since then it has changed to an informal challenge with no official results maintained. Rolling Thunder (exercise)
Rolling Thunder is a one-hand deadlift first developed in 1993 by IronMind Enterprises, Inc. It primarily tests grip strength via a rotating, thick handle of 2 " (6.03 cm) in diameter and 7 " (19.05 cm) in length (rotating portion is 6" (15.24 cm)) attached to a weight loadable Olympic loading pin via a carabiner. The thickness of the handle is derived from the Thomas Inch dumbbell. Throughout the years, it became an internationally recognized method to measure 'support grip' which is one of the three facets of hand strength along-with crush grip and pinch grip. Mark Felix
Mark Felix (born 17 April 1966) is a Grenadian-English retired strongman competitor. He has competed at a record 18 World's Strongest Man contests, reaching the finals three times. Richard Sorin
Richard 'Pops' Sorin (June 26, 1950 - June 3, 2024) was an American strongman and a grip strength specialist. Career Sorin developed noteworthy grip strength at a young age. At only 13 he managed to pinch grip a pair of 35 lb (15.9 kg) York Barbell plates. Coupled with a background of collegiate track and field and national level olympic weightlifting, Sorin rose to prominence, establishing himself as an icon among the grip training fraternity. In 1991, he became the first man to officially close the IronMind Captains of Crush No.3 gripper which is recognized as the gold standard in world class crush grip. Brian Shaw (born February 26, 1982) is an American retired professional strongman who is widely regarded as one of the greatest strength athletes of all time. He won the 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2016 World's Strongest Man, making him one of only five men to win the World’s Strongest Man four times or more. Karl Gillingham (born February 6, 1965) is an American professional strongman and powerlifter. Thomas Inch (27 December 1881 – 12 December 1963) was a British Strongman, who held the titles of Britain's Strongest Youth, Britain's Strong Man and the originator of the Thomas Inch dumbbell challenge. Strength Athletics
Strength athletics is the collection of strength sports which measure physical strength, based on both: non-standard and historical implements as seen in Strongman and Highland games, and standardized and calibrated equipment as seen in Powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting, Weightlifting. Some of the disciplines have similarities to each other and although it is very difficult to master more than one, some athletes participate in several of them and perform at world class levels.
