GFTeam
Grappling Fight Team (most commonly known as GFTeam) is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) academy and team. GFTeam is one of the strongest BJJ competition teams, having produced multiple world champions and regularly finishing in the top 10 of international championships teams ranking. History It was started in 1993 as part of Universidade Gama Filho, a university in Rio de Janeiro as Universidade Gama Filho (UGF) or Gama Filho Jiu-Jitsu. It was developed under coaches Pedro Gama Filho and Paulo Jardim then under Julio Cesar Pereira, Marcus Bello and Alexandre Baraúna. In 2004 the team cut ties with the university following the death of Pedro Filho, in 2007 Julio Cesar founded Grappling Fight Team or GFTeam. GF Team headquarter is located in Bairro do Meier, Rio de Janeiro. Grappling fight team has more than 30 affiliate academies in the world. Mayssa Bastos (born 23 October 1997) is a Brazilian submission grappler and black belt Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitor. Bastos has won almost every single major jiu-jitsu tournaments in both Gi and No-Gi. She is the current roosterweight World Champion, World No-Gi Champion, Pan American Champion and the light-featherweight European Champion. Julio Cesar Pereira is a 7th degree red and black belt coral belt Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) practitioner from Brazil. An international master champion, two-time IBJJF World champion, two-times Pan American champion, eight-times Brazilian champion and 21 times champion of Rio de Janeiro State; Pereira is a renowned coach as the founder and team leader of GFTeam, one of the most accomplished competition teams in jiu-jitsu. Dante Scott Leon (born May 6, 1995) is a Canadian grappler and Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) black belt competitor. A multiple-time World and Pan No-Gi champion in the lower belts divisions, Leon is a two-time black belt IBJJF No-Gi World champion, two-time No-Gi Pan champion, American Nationals champion as well as an ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship bronze medallist. Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ; pt, jiu-jitsu brasileiro ) is a self-defence martial art and combat sport based on grappling, ground fighting ( ne-waza) and submission holds. BJJ focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, controlling one's opponent, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds. Universidade Gama Filho
Universidade Gama Filho was a private university in Brazil that operated from 1939 to 2014. It was located in the neighborhood of Piedade, in the northern part of Rio de Janeiro. The university originated with the establishment of Colégio Piedade in 1939 by Luiz Gama Filho. The university was founded in 1951. From the 1970s, UGF sports teams gained prominence in state and national competitions. By the 1980s, the university had 30,000 students. The university was shut down in 2014, due to financial mismanagement. At the time it had the largest medica school in Brazil.
