GE E25B
The GE E25B is a class of four-axle B-B electric locomotives made by General Electric (GE) in 1976–77. Only seven units were built, all for use by Texas Utilities on two short industrial freight lines. Design Similar to the more powerful E60, the E25B was designed for use hauling coal between mines and power plants on industrial short lines. It was designed for operation on 25kV AC at 60 Hz at up to , though normal use was half that speed. It was lighter and less powerful than the E60: on four axles versus on six, and at around two-thirds its weight. Operation The seven E25B locomotives built were all used by Texas Utilities on the Martin Lake Line (serving the Martin Lake Power Plant) and the Monticello Line (serving the Monticello Steam Electric Station). GE Transportation is a division of Wabtec. It was known as GE Rail and owned by General Electric until sold to Wabtec on February 25, 2019. Winfield, Texas
Winfield is a small city in Titus County, Texas, United States. The population was 524 at the 2010 census. History Winfield's history includes (in addition to railroad operations) coal mining, brick and pottery manufacturing, and the famous Winfield Truck Stop. When the Texas and St. Louis Railway was being constructed through western Titus County in 1880, the citizens of Gray Rock, on the western boundary of the county, were asked to donate money and land to the company for routing the road through their community. When the merchants refused to cooperate, W. C. Barrett deeded a portion of his land a mile northeast of Gray Rock to railroad officials for a depot, and the road was built north of Gray Rock. Monticello Steam Electric Station
The Monticello Steam Electric Station was a 1.8-gigawatt (1,880 MW) coal-fired power plant located southwest of Mount Pleasant, Texas in Titus County, Texas. It operated from 1974 to 2018. History Monticello had three units. Unit 1 began operations in 1974, Unit 2 became operational in 1975, and Unit 3, became operational in 1978. Originally, the plant produced electricity by burning lignite from nearby mines in Texas. Later the plant received rail shipments of coal solely from Peabody Energy's Rawhide Mine in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming. AAR Wheel Arrangement
The AAR wheel arrangement system is a method of classifying locomotive (or unit) wheel arrangements that was developed by the Association of American Railroads. Essentially a simplification of the European UIC classification, it is widely used in North America to describe diesel and electric locomotives (including third-rail electric locomotives). It is not used for steam locomotives, which use the Whyte notation instead. The AAR system counts axles instead of wheels. Letters refer to powered axles, and numbers to unpowered (or idler) axles. "A" refers to one powered axle, "B" to two powered axles in a row, "C" to three powered axles in a row, and "D" to four powered axles in a row.
