Gatra (magazine)
''Gatra'' (stylized in all caps) was a weekly news magazine published in Jakarta, Indonesia from 1994 to 2024. It was one of the two principal news magazines in the country, the other being Tempo (Indonesian magazine), ''Tempo''. ''Gatra'' was founded in 1994, following Suharto administration's ban on ''Tempo (Indonesian magazine), Tempo'' magazine; it was primarily founded by former ''Tempo'' staff. The magazine has its headquarters in Jakarta. It provides articles on news and was published on a weekly basis. The magazine's motto was ''Baca Gatra Baru Bicara'' (Read Gatra, Then Talk). The magazine folded in July 2024 after 30 years of publication due to economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Gatra (music)
A ''gatra'' ("embryo" or "semantic unit") is a unit of melody in Indonesian Javanese people, Javanese gamelan music, analogous to a bar (music), measure in Western music. It is often considered the smallest unit of a gamelan composition. A ''gatra'' consists of a sequence of four beats (''keteg''), which are filled with notes (or rests, ''pin'') from the ''balungan''. In general, the second and fourth beats of a ''gatra'' are stronger than the first and third, and the final note of a ''gatra'', called the ''seleh'', dominates the ''gatra''. In other words, the ''gatras'' are like Western measures in reverse, with the strongest beat at the end. Important colotomic instruments, most notably the ''gong ageng'', are played on that final beat. If the final beat in a ''gatra'' is a rest, the ''seleh'' is the last note played. The Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority (GATRA) oversees and coordinates public and medical transportation in the areas of Attleboro and Taunton, Massachusetts and 24 nearby areas. It operates daily (except on Sundays) fixed bus routes, commuter shuttle services and Dial-A-Ride services for seniors and persons with disabilities within communities in Bristol, Norfolk, and Plymouth counties.
