G7 Kitakyushu Energy Ministerial Meeting
The G7 Kitakyushu Energy Ministerial Meeting is one of the related Ministerial Meetings of the Ise-Shima Summit which was held on 1–2 May 2016 in Kitakyushu, Japan. Site of the Meeting On July 3, 2015, Yoichi Miyazawa, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, made the following statement after it had been decided that the G7 Energy Ministerial Meeting was to be held in Kitakyushu City . “Ever since the establishment of the Imperial Steel Works, Kitakyushu City has continued to develop as a hub for heavy chemical industries, and has been a driving force in promoting the modernization of Japanese industry and the country’s rapid economic growth. Kitakyushu
is a city located in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. As of June 1, 2019, Kitakyushu has an estimated population of 940,978, making it the second-largest city in both Fukuoka Prefecture and the island of Kyushu after the city of Fukuoka. It is one of Japan's 20 designated cities, one of three on Kyushu, and is divided into seven wards. Kitakyushu was formed in 1963 from a merger of municipalities centered on the historic city of Kokura, and its name literally means "North Kyushu City" in Japanese. G7 Ministerial Meetings
G7 and (from 1997 to 2014) G8 ministerial meetings are meetings of the government ministers of the G7 and G8 countries. G7 summit meetings originated in an ''ad hoc'' gathering of finance ministers in 1973. Meetings of finance ministers, labour and employment ministers, environment ministers, foreign ministers and trade ministers and other ''ad hoc'' ministerial meetings have taken place within the country designated for the annual G7 or G8 summit. As of 2021, seven G7 "Ministerial Tracks" cover economic, environmental, health, trade, technology, development and foreign policy issues. 42nd G7 Summit
The 42nd G7 summit was held on 26–27 May 2016 at the Shima Kanko Hotel in Kashiko Island, Shima, Mie Prefecture, Japan. In March 2014, the G7 declared that a meaningful discussion was currently not possible with Russia in the context of the G8. Since then, meetings have continued within the G7 process. Host selection Eight Japanese cities bid to host the 42nd G7 summit in 2016. Prime Minister Shinzō Abe announced on 5 June 2015 that Shima in Mie Prefecture was selected against other bids from Hiroshima, Kobe, Nagoya, Sendai, Niigata, Karuizawa and Hamamatsu. When the central government's deadline closed in August 2014 for prefectural governors to apply to host the summit, Mie Prefecture was not in the running. Yoichi Miyazawa
is a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), a member of the House of Representatives in the Diet (national legislature). A native of Fukuyama, Hiroshima and graduate of the University of Tokyo, he joined the Ministry of Finance in 1974, receiving a MPA from Harvard University in the United States while in the ministry.
