G. Emerson Cole
George Emerson Cole (January 5, 1919 - March 31, 2012) was an American radio, television, and special events producer/announcer pioneer whose weekly radio program ''"The Big Bands Are Back"'' ran for over 32 consecutive years in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Big Band
A big band or jazz orchestra is a type of musical ensemble of jazz music that usually consists of ten or more musicians with four sections: saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and a rhythm section. Big bands originated during the early 1910s and dominated jazz in the early 1940s when swing was most popular. The term "big band" is also used to describe a genre of music, although this was not the only style of music played by big bands. Big bands started as accompaniment for dancing. In contrast to the typical jazz emphasis on improvisation, big bands relied on written compositions and arrangements. Alton Glen Miller (March 1, 1904 – December 15, 1944) was an American big band founder, owner, conductor, composer, arranger, trombone player and recording artist before and during World War II, when he was an officer in the United States Army Air Forces, US Army Air Forces. Glenn Miller Orchestra, Glenn Miller and His Orchestra was one of the most popular and successful bands of the 20th century and the big band era. His military group, the Major Glenn Miller Army Air Forces Orchestra, was also popular and successful. Glenn Miller and His Orchestra was the best-selling recording band from 1939 to 1942. It did not have a string section, but did have a slap bass in the rhythm section. It was also a touring band that played multiple radio broadcasts nearly every day. ''The Gale Storm Show'' is an American sitcom starring Gale Storm. The series premiered on September 29, 1956, and ran until 1960 for 125 half-hour black-and-white episodes, initially on CBS and in its last year on ABC. Broadcast history The show first aired on NBC on January 13, 1950, then on DuMont from March 21, 1952, to July 24, 1955, and finally on ABC. The last show was aired on ABC on February 25, 1956. In its ABC run, ''Life Begins at Eighty'' was aired opposite two anthology series, ''Appointment with Adventure'' on CBS and ''The Loretta Young Show'' on NBC. Prior to its television run, the show began on radio in 1948. The show was hosted by Jack Barry, and consisted of viewers at home writing questions for the octogenarian panel to answer.
