Mirakle
''Mirakle'' is an album by guitarist Derek Bailey, electric bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma, and drummer Calvin Weston. It was recorded on November 29, 1999, at Orange Music in West Orange, New Jersey, and was released in 2000 by Tzadik Records as part of their Key Series. Reception In a review for AllMusic, Sean Westergaard wrote: "No one compromises their individual sound or strengths, but each is a good enough listener and improviser to make things happen as a group. Weston and Tacuma lay it down super funky, while Derek Bailey does his thing over the top, and it works! Who says the avant-garde can't be a rocking good time?" The authors of ''The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings'' called the album "wallopingly unexpected," and stated that Bailey "refuses to hook his usual claim on radical freedom on to fixed energy lines. The guitarist skates ahead of his companions, often playing with flashing speed, but equally often delivering sounds that have no reference to context." Mark Co ...

Queen Of All Ears
''Queen of All Ears'' is an album by the American band the Lounge Lizards, released in 1998. It was the band's final album. "The First and Royal Queen" was used at the end of episodes of '' Painting with John''. The band supported the album with an international tour. Production The album was produced by John Lurie and Pat Dillett. The tracks were written by Lurie, with bass player Erik Sanko cowriting two. Jane Scarpantoni played cello on ''Queen of All Ears''; in total, nine musicians played on the album. Released on Lurie's own label, it was originally intended for Luaka Bop; legal issues delayed the release for two years. Lurie considered writing a book about the ordeal, to be titled ''What Do You Know About Music? You're Not a Lawyer''. The account was told in Lurie's memoir ''The History of Bones'' (2021), in which he also apologized to David Tronzo, because a song intended as a showcase for Tronzo was cut from the album and thus the guitarist did not perform a solo o ...

Virgin Beauty
''Virgin Beauty'' is an album by Ornette Coleman and his Prime Time ensemble. It was released by Portrait Records in 1988. Three of the album's tracks feature guitarist Jerry Garcia, whose involvement with the recording can be traced back to September 1987, when Coleman, his son Denardo, and Cecil Taylor, attended a Grateful Dead concert. Following the concert, Coleman invited Garcia to the recording session for ''Virgin Beauty''. In February 1993, Prime Time opened for the Dead at a show in Oakland, and Coleman participated in the Dead's "space jam" portion of the concert. Reception ''Virgin Beauty'' reached the number two position on ''Billboards jazz chart and sold more in its first year of release than any previous Coleman record. In his review for AllMusic, Scott Yanow noted that "the music is frequently exciting, but will take several listens to absorb. Worth investigating". David Fricke of ''Rolling Stone'' commented: "More than a few Deadheads invested in ''Virgin Beaut ...

In All Languages
''In All Languages'' is a 1987 double album by Ornette Coleman. Coleman and the other members of his 1950s quartet, trumpeter Don Cherry, bassist Charlie Haden, and drummer Billy Higgins, performed on one of the two records, while his electrified ensemble, Prime Time, performed on the other. Many of the songs on ''In All Languages'' had two renditions, one by each group. The double album was originally released by Caravan of Dreams, which also issued the title as a single cassette or compact disc. Coleman's record label, Harmolodic, re-issued ''In All Languages'' in 1997 through a marketing and distribution deal with Verve Records. Recording and music For the album, Coleman recorded both his original quartet and his newer Prime Time band in the same studio within the same period. ''Option'' magazine remarked that ''In All Languages'' showcases the differences between his original quartet's free jazz and the harmolodic funk of his Prime Time band. Geoffrey Himes of ''JazzTim ...

Of Human Feelings
''Of Human Feelings'' is an album by American jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Ornette Coleman. It was recorded on April 25, 1979, at CBS Studios in New York City with his band Prime Time, which featured guitarists Charlie Ellerbee and Bern Nix, bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma, and drummers Calvin Weston and Coleman's son Denardo. It followed the saxophonist's failed attempt to record a direct-to-disc session earlier in March of the same year and was the first jazz album to be recorded digitally in the United States. The album's jazz-funk music continued Coleman's harmolodic approach to improvisation with Prime Time, whom he had introduced on his 1975 album ''Dancing in Your Head''. This approach emphasized natural rhythmic and emotional responses in a way that Coleman compared to a spirit of collective consciousness. He also drew on rhythm and blues influences from early in his career for ''Of Human Feelings'', which had shorter and more distinct compositions than ''Dan ...

Hymn Of The 3rd Galaxy
''Hymn of the 3rd Galaxy'' is the third album by American experimental power trio Free Form Funky Frēqs, featuring guitarist Vernon Reid, electric bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma, and drummer Grant Calvin Weston. It was recorded during 2020–2021 at the musicians' home studios, and was released in 2022 by Ropeadope Records. The album title pays tribute to the 1973 Return to Forever recording ''Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy''. Reid reflected: "That record was very important in my development... Bill Connors' playing on it is so full of fire, but it's also emotionally vulnerable in a way. I was very affected by the compositions, as well." The titles of most of the individual tracks refer to parts of the Milky Way galaxy. The musicians are adamant about performing and recording without preconceptions, soundchecks, or rehearsals, and because they play together so infrequently, they are able to assign a number to each encounter, with ''Hymn of the 3rd Galaxy'' being the result of meeting n ...

Urban Mythology Volume One

It was recorded during the summer of 2007 at Fenix Studios in Staten Island, New York, and was released in 2008 by Thirsty Ear Recordings. The album documents the musicians' third meeting, following impromptu live sets at Tonic in New York City and Philadelphia's Tritone venue, and attempts to capture the energy and spontaneity of their live performances. Reception In a review for AllMusic, Thom Jurek wrote: "this is a wild ride into the unconscious worlds of freakout guitar rock, funk, jazz, and 'other' music... guitar fans will be knocked out; this is one of the hippest, nastiest, most utterly electric six-string music on record... The raw wigged-out soul that this band plays with never ceases to amaze... This is a monster of a record, and if anybody gets to hear it, it will go ...
