''Fíor Scéal'' is an Irish language documentary series broadcast on Irish language television channel TG4 about aspects of world current affairs and other topics. The series is based on programming funded by SBS in Australia and by a French production company, this series in Ireland has been repackaged for an Irish audience. The etymology of the name comes from ''fíor'', meaning "true" and ''scéal'' meaning "story". Current affairs is a genre of broadcast journalism in which major news stories are discussed at length in a timely manner. Alex Hijmans (born 1975) is a Dutch multingual journalist and author. He has published several works in the Irish language. Biography Hijmans was born in 1975 in Heemskerk, Netherlands. He spent twelve years in Ireland, where he acquired fluency in the Irish language and engaged in media studies at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
