Félix María Ruiz
Felix Maria Ruiz (1815–1891) was a Dominican activist and revolutionary. He was, along with Juan Pablo Duarte, one of the founders of the Secret Society La Trinitaria, on July 16 , 1838, established in the house of Juan Isidro Pérez, located in front of the Church of Carmen. Biography Born in Santo Domingo in 1815, from a very young age he received a careful education based on the classics of universal literature, and where there was room for long hours of reading in the family library, which he often shared with his friend and childhood companion Juan Pablo Duarte. As time passed, the childhood friends met, mature and with greater intellectual background, and above all, Duarte, with very clear political ideals regarding his homeland. Juan Pablo Duarte y Díez (January 26, 1813 – July 15, 1876) was a Dominican military leader, writer, activist, and nationalist politician who was the foremost of the Founding Fathers of the Dominican Republic and bears the title of Father of the Nation. As one of the most celebrated figures in Dominican history, Duarte is considered a folk hero and revolutionary visionary in the modern Dominican Republic, who along with military generals Ramón Matías Mella and Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, organized and promoted La Trinitaria, a secret society that eventually led to the Dominican revolt and independence from Haitian rule in 1844 and the start of the Dominican War of Independence. Juan Isidro Pérez
Juan Isidro Pérez de la Paz (November 19, 1817 – February 7, 1868) was a Dominican activist who was a key member and co-founder of the secret society La Trinitaria. He was a hero of the Dominican War of Independence. Early life He was born in Santo Domingo on November 19, 1817. He was the son of María Josefa Pérez de la Paz y Valerio (1788–1855), and the priest Valentín Morales. He was the uncle of Juan Isidro Jimenes and brother-in-law of Manuel Jimenes. He was a student of Gaspar Hernández, with whom he studied Latin and philosophy. He was also known for his skills as a swordsman. Activism He actively fought against the Haitian leader Jean Pierre Boyer in the Reform Revolution carried out in Praslin in 1843. La Trinitaria (Dominican Republic)
La Trinitaria (, ''The Trinity'') was a secret society founded in 1838 in what today is known as Arzobispo Nouel Street, across from the "Del Carmen's Church" in the then occupied Santo Domingo, the current capital of the Dominican Republic. The founder, Juan Pablo Duarte, and a group of like minded young people, led the struggle to establish the Dominican Republic as a free, sovereign, and independent nation in the 19th century. Their main goal was to protect their newly liberated country from all foreign invasion. They helped bring about the end of the Haitian occupation of Santo Domingo from 1822 to 1844.
