Félix Auger-Aliassime
Felix Auger-Aliassime (; born August 8, 2000) is a Canadian professional tennis player. He has a career-high singles ranking of No. 6, which he achieved on November 7, 2022, making him the second-highest-ranked Canadian man in ATP rankings history and the fourth-highest-ranked Canadian player in history. He has a career-high doubles ranking of No. 60, attained on November 1, 2021. He has won seven singles titles and one doubles title on the ATP Tour, and was selected as the Lionel Conacher Award, 2022 Canadian Press athlete of the year. Auger-Aliassime was also part of Canada's winning squad in the 2022 ATP Cup as well as the 2022 Davis Cup Finals. Tennis At The Summer Olympics
Tennis was part of the Summer Olympic Games program from the inaugural 1896 Summer Olympics, but was dropped after the 1924 Summer Olympics due to disputes between the International Lawn Tennis Federation and the International Olympic Committee over how to define amateur players. After two appearances as a demonstration sport in 1968 and 1984 (with a U-21 age limit), it returned as a full medal sport at the 1988 Summer Olympics open for all players regardless of their age and status and has been played at every summer Games since then. 2019 Rio Open
The 2019 Rio Open was a professional men's tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was the sixth edition of the Rio Open, and formed part of the ATP Tour 500 series of the 2019 ATP Tour. It took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil between February 18 and 24, 2019. There was a plan to move the tournament from the clay court surface in Jockey Club Brasileiro to the outdoor hard courts at the Olympic Tennis Centre, which hosted the tennis events of the 2016 Summer Olympics situated in Barra Olympic Park. The intention was to attract more world class players in the tournament such as Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Andy Murray who consistently declined to play the event. Denis Viktorovich Shapovalov (born ) is a Canadian professional tennis player. He has been ATP rankings, ranked as high as world No. 10 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals, ATP, which he first achieved on September 21, 2020. Gabriela "Gaby" Dabrowski (; , ; born April 1, 1992) is a Canadian professional tennis player. She reached her career-high doubles ranking of world No. 3 on 15 July 2024. A three-time Grand Slam champion, she won the 2023 US Open doubles title, partnering Erin Routliffe, and also the 2017 French Open mixed-doubles title, with Rohan Bopanna, becoming the first Canadian woman to win a senior Grand Slam title, and the 2018 Australian Open with Mate Pavić. 2022 ATP Cup
The 2022 ATP Cup was the third and final edition of the ATP Cup, an international outdoor hard court men's team tennis tournament held by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). The tournament was part of the 2022 ATP Tour. Due to the uncertainties with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it was held at the Ken Rosewall Arena and the Sydney Super Dome in Sydney, from 1 to 9 January 2022 with 16 teams. Lionel Conacher Award
The Lionel Conacher Award is an annual award given to Canada's male athlete of the year. The sports writers of the Canadian Press (CP) first conducted a poll to determine the nation's top athlete, of either gender, in 1932. Separate polls for the best male and Bobbie Rosenfeld Award, female athletes were conducted beginning the following year. The CP formalized the poll into an award in 1978, presenting their winner a plaque. It was named after Lionel Conacher, a multi-sport champion whom the news organization had named its top athlete of the half-century in 1950. The award is separate from the Northern Star Award, in which a select panel of sports writers vote for their top overall athlete.
