Félix Almagro
Félix Almagro González (; 11 June 1907 – 13 July 1939) was a Spanish bullfighter who died at Madrid's Las Ventas bullring after being gored there by a yearling bull named Capirote or Rondeño (sources differ), thus earning himself the unenviable distinction of being the first bullfighter to be killed by a bull at Las Ventas. Biography Almagro was born on 11 June 1907 in Torrijos, a small town in the Province of Toledo in central Spain. His beginnings were quite humble. His family ran a fruit stand in the street in Torrijos now known as Avenida de la Estación. Unlike many boys who dreamt of becoming bullfighters, though, his aspiration to do just this only began rather late. He nonetheless honed his bullfighting skills at the local ''capeas'' (somewhat less than professional-level rural bullfighting events), and was already 25 years old when he first presented himself at Madrid as a ''novillero'' (novice bullfighter who fights yearling bulls). Torrijos, Spain
Torrijos is a municipality in the province of Toledo, Castilla–La Mancha, Spain. As of 1 January 2022, it had a registered population of 13,678. The municipality spans across a total area of 17.34 km2. History A Christian army on its way to Toledo took control over the place on behalf of Alfonso VI in 1085, thereby becoming a ''realengo'' (' royal demesne'). Torrijos was gifted to the archbishop of Toledo in 1214, in reward for the latter's help in the Battle of Navas de Tolosa, ensuingly becoming a dominion of the Mitre of Toledo. Torrijos enjoyed a sizeable Jewish community, which sided with the losing side in the Castilian Civil War and which also suffered, although to a lesser extent than other locations, the 1391 pogroms. In the context of the 1449 urban revolts in Toledo, a Toledan army under Pedro Girón sacked Torrijos in 1450. Muleta
A muleta is a stick with a red cloth hanging from itmuleta' in the Diccionario de la Real Academia. that is used in the final third ('' tercio de muleta'' or ''de muerte'') of a bullfight. It is different from the cape used by the matador earlier in the fight (''capote de brega''). The muleta obscures the sword; and as in his earlier work with the cape, the bullfighter uses it to attract the bull in a series of passes, thus demonstrating his control over it. The red color of the muleta is actually irrelevant since bulls are dichromatic, meaning neither the cape nor the muleta color can be accurately discerned by the bull.
