Fyzabad
Fyzabad is a town in southwestern Trinidad, south of San Fernando, west of Siparia and northeast of Point Fortin. It is named after the town of Faizabad in India. Colloquially it is known as "Fyzo" by many people. History Fyzabad was founded by Rev. Kenneth J. Grant, a Presbyterian missionary in Trinidad in 1871. The purpose of the settlement was to separate Christian Indians from the unconverted Hindu and Muslim populations. The town later grew with the discovery of oil in the area in 1917, and attracted a large number of immigrants from Grenada and other Lesser Antillean islands. In 1937 Fyzabad was the centre of labour unrest, led by T.U.B. Butler which is considered the birth of the Labour movement in Trinidad and Tobago. The collapse of oil prices in the 1980s, coupled with declining onshore oil production, led to a decline in the town of Fyzabad. Tubal Uriah "Buzz" Butler (21 January 1897 – 20 February 1977), was a Grenadian-born Spiritual Baptist preacher and labour leader in Trinidad and Tobago. He is best known for leading a series of labour riots between 19 June and 6 July 1937 and for forming a series of personalist political parties (the British Empire Citizens' and Workers' Home Rule Party, the Butler Home Rule Party, and finally the Butler Party) that focused its platform on the improvement of the working class. Faizabad (Hindustani pronunciation: ɛːzaːbaːd is a city located in Ayodhya district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is situated on the southern bank of the River Saryu about 6.5 km from Ayodhya City, the district headquarter, 130 km east of the state capital Lucknow. Lennox Emmanuel Superville (born June 10, 1942) is a Trinidadian-American professor, mathematician, and engineer. Early life and education Lennox E. Superville was born on June 10, 1942, in Fyzabad, Trinidad and Tobago. While attending Nelson Street Boys' R.C. School in Port of Spain, Trinidad, his mother unexpectedly died from a heart attack at St. Ann's Hospital Port of Spain, Trinidad. After transitioning from Nelson Street Boys' RC School in 1955, he enrolled at Osmond High School in San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago. On August 28, 1966, he moved to New York City to pursue his Ph.D. in mathematics. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics at Hunter College, New York City, in 1970, followed by his master of arts in 1972. Leslie Sebastian Charles (born 21 January 1950), known professionally as Billy Ocean, is a Trinidadian-born British singer and songwriter. Between 1976 and 1988, he had a series of hit songs in the UK and internationally. Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona (born 7 March 1953) is a Trinidadian politician who was the fifth President of Trinidad and Tobago from 2013 to 2018. Michael Ellis Fisher (3 September 1931 – 26 November 2021) was an English physicist, as well as chemist and mathematician, known for his many seminal contributions to statistical physics, including but not restricted to the theory of phase transitions and critical phenomena. Siparia is a town in southern Trinidad, in Trinidad and Tobago, south of San Fernando, southwest of Penal and Debe and southeast of Fyzabad.
