''Furies'' is a 1977 American experimental animated short film by Sara Petty. Style Writing for ''Animation for Adults'', blogger Yvonne G. describes the film as "a gorgeous rush" in which ''rarefilm'' notes that its charcoal- and pastel-drawn designs evoke Art Deco and Cubism. Reception and legacy Despite the film's acclaim, few prints are known to exist. In 2017, it was screened at New York City's Metrograph Theater––alongside such shorts as Lisze Bechtold's conceptually similar ''Moon Breath Beat''––as part of its "Restored Animated Rarities" program hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The following year, the Los Angeles-based iotaCenter uploaded a copy to its Vimeo page. Ned Rorem
Ned Miller Rorem (October 23, 1923 – November 18, 2022) was an American composer of contemporary classical music and a writer. Best known for his art songs, which number over 500, Rorem was considered the leading American of his time writing in the genre. Frequently described as a neoromantic composer, he showed limited interest in the emerging modernist aesthetic of his lifetime. As a writer, he kept—and later published—numerous diaries in which he spoke candidly of his exchanges and relationships with many cultural figures of America and France. Born in Richmond, Indiana, Rorem found an early interest in music, studying with Margaret Bonds and Leo Sowerby. He developed a strong enthusiasm for French music and received mentorship from Aaron Copland and Virgil Thomson, among others. The Ottawa International Animation Festival is an annual animated film and media festival that takes place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The OIAF was founded in 1975, with the first festival held from August 10 to 15 in 1976. Initially organized by the Canadian Film Institute on a biennial basis and with the co-operation of the International Animated Film Association, the Festival organization now remains in the hands of the CFI.
