Funérailles De Jean Leclant - Haie Et église
''Funérailles'' is the 7th and one of the most famous pieces in ''Harmonies poétiques et religieuses'' (''Poetic and Religious Harmonies''), a collection of piano pieces by Franz Liszt. It was an elegy written in October 1849 in response to the crushing of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 by the Habsburgs. ''Funérailles'' has been recorded by pianists such as György Cziffra, Claudio Arrau, Vladimir Horowitz, Arthur Rubinstein, John Ogdon, Martha Argerich, Evgeny Kissin, Sviatoslav Richter, Arnaldo Cohen, Arcadi Volodos, Sergio Fiorentino, Awadagin Pratt and Krystian Zimerman. Sergio Fiorentino
Sergio Fiorentino (22 December 1927 – 22 August 1998) was a 20th-century Italian classical pianist whose sporadic performing career spanned five decades. There is quite a bit of footage of his playing that survives, in addition to audio recordings. Recently, a complete concert recorded on video in 1994 has surfaced. Biography Fiorentino was born in Naples and studied at the Conservatorio San Pietro a Majella in Naples under Luigi Finizio and Paolo Denza, earned his diploma in 1946 and attended a master class of Carlo Zecchi in Salzburg in 1948. At the age of 20, in 1947 he won a piano competition in Monza, whose jury was chaired by Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. There is a legend that Michelangeli himself would later say about him: "He is the only other pianist." His debut was at Carnegie Recital Hall, New York in 1953. The polonaise (, ; , ) is a dance originating in Poland, and one of the five Polish national dances in time. The original Polish-language name of the dance is ''chodzony'' (), denoting a walking dance. The polonaise dance influenced European ballrooms, folk music and European classical music. Yves Henry
Yves Henry (born 2 April 1959) is a French pianist who specializes in romantic music. He debuted at 13 performing Ludwig van Beethoven's 1st Piano Concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic. After graduating from the Conservatoire de Paris (where he now teaches), he was the first Western European pianist to win the Robert Schumann Competition (1981) and was subsequently prized at the Casadesus Competition (1985). He performs and records at an international level, and often judges international piano competitions. Currently he serves as the president of the Nohant Festival (fr). Claire Chevallier
Claire Chevallier (born in 1969) is a Franco-Belgian pianist who specializes in the fortepiano. Biography Chevallier studied piano at the Conservatoires of Nancy and Strasbourg (class of Hélène Boschi) then with Bruno Rigutto in Paris. She then continued her training at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with and Guy Van Waas. She received a First Prize for piano and chamber music. It was during a masterclass given by Jos van Immerseel that she was fascinated by the fortepiano and therefore interested, as musician and researcher, in the historical contexts of the instruments and their technical evolution.
