Funeral Oration (band)
Funeral Oration was a melodic hardcore punk band from Amsterdam, Netherlands. They were active from 1982–83 until the end of the 1990s, putting out highly influential records on Dutch, German, British and American labels. Their singer was Peter Zirschky. After listening to punk rock for a couple of years, Peter Zirschky decided to start a punk band. It was 1980 and they called themselves Art Protexion, probably because Zirschky's favourite band at the time was The Art Attacks The Art Attacks were an English punk band from April 1977 to March 1978. Their songs released as singles were "I am a Dalek"/"Neutron Bomb" and "Punk Rock Stars"/"Rat City". The group was formed by Edwin Pouncey and Steve Spear, two students .... Melodic Hardcore
Melodic hardcore is a broadly defined subgenre of hardcore punk with a strong emphasis on melody in its guitar work. The style often includes guitar harmonies, riffs using octave chords, as well as broken chords. Additionally, lyrics tend towards intellectualism, often being politically conscious or narrative, with concept albums sometimes being prominent. Bands in the genre also have a tendency to take influence from a range of genres including emo, post-punk, screamo, pop-punk, metalcore, post-rock and gothic rock. In the early and mid–1980s, bands including the Faith, Descendents, Dag Nasty, Gorilla Biscuits and 7 Seconds were amongst the first hardcore bands to put an emphasis on their melodies. Hardcore punk (commonly abbreviated to hardcore or hXc) is a punk rock music genre#subtypes, subgenre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. Punk rock (also known as simply punk) is a rock music genre that emerged in the mid-1970s. Peter Zirschky
Peter Zirschky was the singer and songwriter for the Dutch hardcore punk band Funeral Oration. He was the only constant member of the band, being their frontman since the very beginning in 1982 until their break up circa 1999. He also played guitar on some of their early recordings. Zirschky, a long-time horror movie fan, was also the founder of Horror Relations and Savage Cinema fanzines and distro. He even named his cat Lucio – after the famous Italian film director Lucio Fulci. The Art Attacks
The Art Attacks were an English punk band from April 1977 to March 1978. Their songs released as singles were "I am a Dalek"/"Neutron Bomb" and "Punk Rock Stars"/"Rat City". The group was formed by Edwin Pouncey and Steve Spear, two students from the Royal College of Art, London for a one-off gig at the college. They were asked to do a gig at Wimbledon College of Art and this led to the band's short career. They had two tracks on the ''Live at the Vortex'' (NEMS) compilation album, ("Frankensteins Heartbeat" and "Animal Bondage") and one on the ''Streets'' (Beggars Banquet Records) compilation album, ("Arabs in Arrads"). They played at most of the London punk club and pub venues including The Marquee, Nashville and Vortex supporting bands like Generation X, 999, The Motors and The Lurkers.
