Bis ( , stylised in all lowercase) are a Scottish indie pop band composed of Steven Clark (Sci-Fi Steven), John Clark (John Disco), and Amanda MacKinnon (Manda Rin), formed in 1994. The band's name, rhyming with 'this', derives from "black iron skyline", a lyric from the song "Twilight of a Champion" by The The. After releasing numerous EPs and three studio albums, ''The New Transistor Heroes'' (1997), ''Social Dancing'' (1999), and '' Return To Central'' (2001), the band broke up in 2003, but re-formed briefly in 2007 for a series of concerts. In 2009, they re-formed again and released the album '' data Panik etcetera'' (2014). In 2019, the band's lineup returned to the original core three-piece and released the album ''Slight Disconnects''. Buffalo Bar
The Buffalo Bar was a music and arts venue located at 259 Upper Street, Highbury Corner, Islington, from 2000 until 2014. History The venue was situated beneath The Famous Cock Tavern, adjacent to Highbury & Islington station. The basement at 259 Upper Street had previously been a branch of Po Na Na nightclub, and before that, Club Down Under. The Buffalo Bar opened in 2000 and hosted performances by a large number of notable alternative and indie rock artists. As well as live concerts the venue hosted a number of club nights, including The Cave Club, Great Big Kiss, Afro Cuban Lounge, How Does It Feel to Be Loved?, Twee As Fuck, Artrocker, Guided Missile and Indieoke. Last Night From Glasgow (often abbreviated to LNFG) is a not-for-profit independent record label based in Glasgow, Scotland. It was established in 2016 and relies on a crowdfunding business model to operate. The label's name is taken from the line "When I called you last night from Glasgow" in ABBA's '' Super Trouper''. History In January 2016 music fan Ian Smith contacted 5 friends with a view to setting up a small record label. They agreed to found the business operated on a patronage model, with donations of a £50 from 60 of their friends and associates. In return the patrons would receive physical copies of each release and guest list entry to all label events. The label was founded with the intention of assisting unsigned artists with the physical release and promotion of their music. Manda Rin
Amanda MacKinnon (born 22 March 1977), better known by her stage name Manda Rin, is a Scottish singer, artist and songwriter. She is the singer, drummer and keyboardist of the Scottish indie rock band bis, later fronted the Kitchen and also released a solo album. She also co-hosted a radio show on BBC Scotland called ''Air''. Rin was the only person ever to appear in three of the line up rounds on ''Never Mind the Buzzcocks'': twice on the original run on the BBC, and once on the revival on Sky. Her first appearance initially unaired; one of the contestants on the programme was Russell Brand who, shortly after taping, became embroiled in a tabloid row after leaving messages on the answerphone of Andrew Sachs for his radio programme, resulting in Brand being banned from the BBC. John Clark (born on 21 August 1978, better known as John Disco) is a Scottish record producer, sound engineer and songwriter. He started out his career as a member of the band Bis, and has worked in the recording studio with Fangs, Franz Ferdinand, Stevie Jackson, Linus Loves and Mylo. Hard Skin is an English punk group from Gipsy Hill, London who play in the early UK Oi! style. History Hard Skin is an oi band founded in 1996 and their first album ''Hard Nuts and Hard Cunts'' appeared that year. The band were: bassist "Fat Bob" (Sean Forbes of Wat Tyler), guitarist and lead vocalist "Johnny Takeaway" (Ben Corrigan of Thatcher on Acid) and drummer "Nosher" (Chris Acland of indie/Britpop band Lush).
