''War of the Birds'' () is a 1990 Danish adult animated drama film directed by Jannik Hastrup, about two orphan birds, Oliver and Olivia, who fight against an evil vulture-like bird-of-prey with the help of two mice. It is based on a book with a similar name (Fuglekrigen, or "The Bird-War" in English) from the writer, Bent Haller. Plot In a forest lives a peaceful community of birds, including a pair of sparrows residing happily in a nest awaiting the hatching of their seven eggs. During a storm, the sparrows are attacked and killed by Fagin, a sadistic and evil vulture-like black bird-of-prey who kills every bird in his path. The issuing struggle causes the seven eggs to fall out the nest with only one surviving and landing near a hole in the tree which is owned by Walter, an owl. Jannik Hastrup
Jannik Hastrup (born 4 May 1941 in Næstved, Denmark) is a Danish writer, director, producer, illustrator and animator. He is considered "Denmark's grand master of animation", as he is particularly well known for directing, animating and writing several animated films, occasionally with Flemming Quist Møller, including ''Benny's Bathtub'', ', '' Samson & Sally'', '' War of the Birds'', '' The Monkeys and the Secret Weapon'', ' and '' A Tale of Two Mozzies''. He also directed, wrote and animated a number of shorts following Cirkeline the elf. He also founded his own animation studio called "Dansk Tegnefilm". Politics Jannik Hastrup was involved in films with socialist and social realism themes. Ove Wendelboe Sprogøe Petersen (21 December 1919 – 14 September 2004) was a Danish actor. Life Born in Odense, his parents were Arthur and Inger Sprogøe Petersen. He married Eva Rasmussen in 1945, with whom he had three children. One of these is actor . Career He made his film debut in ''Hans Store Aften'' (''His Big Night'').
