Doug Frobel
Douglas Steven Frobel (born June 6, 1959) is a Canadian retired professional baseball player. An outfielder, he appeared in 268 Major League games over five seasons (1982–1985; 1987). He batted left-handed, threw right-handed, stood tall and weighed . Signed as an amateur free agent in 1977, Frobel was developed in the Pittsburgh Pirates' farm system to take over the starting right fielder position from Dave Parker in 1984, after he batted .304 with 24 home runs and 80 runs batted in for the Triple-A Hawaii Islanders in 1983. Prone to strikeouts, Frobel never played regularly but had a career high of 12 home runs in 126 games played in 1984. In 607 MLB plate appearances and 542 at bats, Frobel registered 109 hits and 155 strikeouts. Friedrich Fröbel
Friedrich Wilhelm August Fröbel or Froebel (; 21 April 1782 – 21 June 1852) was a German pedagogue, a student of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi, who laid the foundation for modern education based on the recognition that children have unique needs and capabilities. He created the concept of the ''kindergarten'' and coined the word, which soon entered the English language as well. He also developed the educational toys known as Froebel gifts. Biography Friedrich Fröbel was born at Oberweißbach in the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt in Thuringia. A cousin of his was the mother of Henriette Schrader-Breymann, and Henriette became a student of his. Fröbel's father, Johann Jacob Fröbel, who died in 1802, was the pastor of the orthodox Lutheran (alt-lutherisch) parish there. Fröbel's mother's name was Jacobine Eleonore Friederike (born Hoffmann). Julius Fröbel
Carl Ferdinand Julius Fröbel (16 July 1805 – 7 November 1893) was a German geologist and mineralogist, journalist, and democratic revolutionary already during the ''Vormärz'' era. He was active in Germany, Switzerland, the United States and South America at different times in his life. Biography He was born in the Thuringian village of Griesheim (today part of the Ilmtal municipality), the son of pastor Johann Michael Christoph Fröbel (d. 1813) and his wife Christiane Sopie. He attended the educational institute of his uncle Friedrich Fröbel, the founder of the kindergarten system, and continued his studies of natural sciences at the universities of Jena, Munich, and Berlin. By the agency of Alexander von Humboldt, Fröbel took up a teaching position in Zürich in 1833 and became a naturalized citizen of Switzerland. Kai Frobel
Kai Frobel is a German environmental ecologist. When he was young he lived very near the German part of the Iron Curtain, on the west side, near Coburg. He realized that the public-excluded security zone along the Iron Curtain had become a de facto wildlife reserve. When the Iron Curtain fell in 1989, he was instrumental in getting these wildlife reserves preserved as the European Green Belt. He runs the Ribbon of Life project which seeks to preserve these areas. He is associated with the BUND (Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland). A Froebel star (german: Fröbelstern) is a Christmas decoration made of paper, common in Germany. In English it does not have a commonly recognised name; it can be referred to as Advent star, Danish star, German star, Nordic star, Pennsylvanian star, Polish star, Swedish star, Christmas star, or Froebel star. It is also sometimes called a Moravian star, though the Moravian star is a general category of geometrical shapes and the sixteen tipped piece of origami is specifically called the Froebel star. Description The three-dimensional Froebel star is assembled from four identical paper strips with a width-to-length proportion of between 1:25 and 1:30.
