Fräulein (1958 Film)
''Fräulein'' is a 1958 American romantic drama war film directed by Henry Koster starring Dana Wynter and Mel Ferrer as two people caught up in World War II and the aftermath. It was also released as ''Fraulein'' in CinemaScope. Plot In Cologne near the end of World War II, American prisoner of war Foster MacLain (Mel Ferrer) escapes and is sheltered by Professor Julius Angermann (Ivan Triesault). Angermann's daughter Erika ( Dana Wynter) is not so welcoming, but hides the American from the German soldiers looking for him. MacLain leaves when it is safe. Not long afterwards, a bomb strikes the house, killing the professor. Erika goes to live in Berlin with her cousin Karl (Herbert Berghof). Karl has lodgers, Fritz and Berta Graubach ( Luis van Rooten and Blandine Ebinger), who are outspoken supporters of the Nazi cause. Henry Koster
Henry Koster (born Hermann Kosterlitz, May 1, 1905 – September 21, 1988) was a German-born film director. He was the husband of actress Peggy Moran. Early life Koster was born to Jewish parents in Berlin, Germany. He was introduced to cinema around the year 1910 when his uncle opened a movie theater in Berlin. Koster's mother played the piano to accompany the films, leaving the young boy to occupy himself by watching the films. After working initially as a short story writer, Kosterlitz was hired by a Berlin movie company as scenarist, becoming an assistant to director Curtis Bernhardt. Bernhardt became sick one day and asked Kosterlitz to take over as director. Career In 1932, Koster directed his first film in Berlin, the comedy ''Thea Roland''. Ivan Triesault (born Johann Constantin Treisalt; in Tallinn, Reval (now Tallinn) – January 3, 1980 in Los Angeles) was an Estonians, Estonian-American actor. Helmut Dantine
Helmut Dantine (7 October 1918 – 2 May 1982) was an Austrian-American actor who often played Nazis in thriller films of the 1940s. His best-known performances are perhaps the German pilot in ''Mrs. Miniver'' and the desperate Bulgarian refugee in ''Casablanca'', who tries gambling to obtain travel visa money for himself and his wife. As his acting career waned, he turned to producing. James Edwards (actor)
James Johnson Edwards (March 6, 1918January 4, 1970) was an American actor in films and television. His most famous role was as Private Peter Moss in the 1949 film '' Home of the Brave'', in which he portrayed a Black soldier experiencing racial prejudice while serving in the South Pacific during World War II. Career Edwards majored in psychology at Knoxville College in Tennessee and continued his education at Northwestern University where he received a master's degree in drama. While enrolled at Northwestern, he participated in student productions and in the Federal Theatre Project. During World War II, he was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Theodore Bikel
Theodore Meir Bikel ( ; May 2, 1924 – July 21, 2015) was an Austrian-American actor, singer, musician, composer, unionist, and political activist. He made his stage debut in '' Tevye the Milkman'' in Mandatory Palestine, where he lived as a teenager. He later studied acting at Britain's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and made his London stage debut in 1948 and in New York in 1955.
