Froggy (brand)
Froggy is a brand name radio format used for a variety of radio stations in the United States, most of which broadcast a country music format, with a few playing adult contemporary. (There was, however, an oldies-themed "Froggy" in Erie, Pennsylvania: the former WFGO; that station has since changed format and calls in 2007. Another oldies-based Froggy station, KFGI in Austin, Texas, changed formats in 1994.) Although the frog logo is shared among these stations, most of them are not associated with one another. The "Froggy" branding is particularly common among country stations currently or formerly owned by Forever Broadcasting or Forever Communications and Keymarketradio LLC, companies founded by Froggy creator Kerby Confer. WFRG-FM (104.3 MHz), branded as Big Frog 104, is a country music radio station licensed to Utica, New York. Owned by Townsquare Media as part of a cluster with news-talk station WIBX, hot AC-formatted WLZW, classic hits-formatted WODZ and classic rock-formatted WOUR, it bills itself as "Central New York’s #1 For New Country". History 104.3 FM in Utica signed on the air in 1948 as WRUN-FM, a simulcast of AM station WRUN. In 1976 the station changed callsigns to WKGW and began airing an adult contemporary format under the name KG-104 then Magic 104. For many years, they were the market leading AC station, outlasting competitor WUUU in this format. In its later years, the name was changed to back to KG-104. WFGS
WFGS (103.7 FM) is a radio station located in Murray, Kentucky. Owned by Forever Communications, the station airs a country music format as "Froggy 103.7". History The station went on the air as WAAW in 1977, owned by Murray Broadcasting Company and an album oriented rock format. In 1988, the station was sold to Jackson Purchase Broadcasting, which changed the call to WBLN and flipped to an adult contemporary format. After being sold to Forever Communications, 103.7 became a country station with the call sign WFGE. In July 2008, the owner elected to move the Murray station's call sign to another station with the Froggy branding based in Pennsylvania. The old WFGE then became WFGS. "Joy to the World" is a song written by Hoyt Axton and made famous by the band Three Dog Night. The song is also popularly known by its opening lyric, "Jeremiah was a bullfrog". Three Dog Night originally released the song on their fourth studio album, '' Naturally'', in November 1970, and subsequently released an edited version of the song as a single in February 1971. The song, which has been described by members of Three Dog Night as a "kid's song" and a "silly song", topped the singles charts in North America, was certified gold by the RIAA, and has since been covered by multiple artists. Three Dog Night is an American rock band formed in 1967, founded by vocalists Chuck Negron, Cory Wells, and Danny Hutton. WFGE is owned and operated by Seven Mountains Media, through licensee Southern Belle Media Family, LLC. WFGE boasts one of the strongest signals in Central Pennsylvania.
