Fritz Egli
Fritz W. Egli, (born June 30, 1937, in Zurich) is a Swiss former motorcycle racing, motorcycle racer. He is known as a motorcycle frame specialist, and engine tuner. History Egli founded his motorcycle speed shop in 1965. One of his first vehicles included a Vincent Motorcycles, Vincent Vincent Black Shadow, Black Shadow, with what was to become his signature large diameter central tube which won a 1968 motorcycle hill climb championship. He went on to become famous for his frame designs for the large Japanese motorcycle engines of the 1970s, especially the Honda CB750 Four and the first big four-stroke motorcycles of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kawasaki. His large diameter tube frame design later incorporated a honeycomb structure, honeycomb internal section which was suggested by a visiting Australian in 1979. Honeycomb Structure
Honeycomb structures are natural or man-made structures that have the geometry of a honeycomb to allow the minimization of the amount of used material to reach minimal weight and minimal material cost. The geometry of honeycomb structures can vary widely but the common feature of all such structures is an array of hollow cells formed between thin vertical walls. The cells are often columnar and hexagonal in shape. A honeycomb-shaped structure provides a material with minimal density and relative high out-of-plane compression properties and out-of-plane shear properties. Man-made honeycomb structural materials are commonly made by layering a honeycomb material between two thin layers that provide strength in tension. This forms a plate-like assembly. Ariel Square Four
The Square Four is a motorcycle produced by Ariel Motorcycles, Ariel between 1931 and 1959, designed by Edward Turner (motorcycle designer), Edward Turner, who devised the Square Four engine in 1928. At this time he was looking for work, showing drawings of his engine design to motorcycle manufacturers. The early engine with "two transverse crankshafts" was essentially a pair of 'across frame' OHC parallel twins joined by their geared central flywheels, with a four-cylinder (engine), cylinder block (or monobloc engine#Cylinder block, ''Monobloc'') and single head. The idea for the engine was rejected by BSA, but adopted by Ariel. Thus it became the Ariel Square Four. Healey 1000/4
The Healey 1000/4 is a British motorcycle made by the Healey brothers between 1971 and 1977. Fitted with an improved Ariel Square Four 1000 cc engine, the Healey was cheaper than a Honda Gold Wing, but only 28 Healey motorcycles were ever built. Development Originally designed by Edward Turner in 1928, the dry-sump Ariel Square Four was the only British motorcycle engine with four cylinders arranged to form a square. The front two cylinders powered one crankshaft while the rear two drove a second. Unlike contemporary British parallel twins, each crankshaft had a 180° configuration, the two crankshafts being linked by a helical gear so that diagonally opposed pistons moved in unison. The Honda CB750 is an air-cooled, Transverse engine, transverse, Straight-four engine, in-line-four-cylinder-engine motorcycle made by Honda over several generations for year models 1969–2008 with an upright, or Types of motorcycles#Standard, standard, riding posture.
