Fritz-Grunebaum-Sportpark
The Fritz-Grunebaum-Sportpark is a rugby union stadium in Heidelberg, Germany. It is the home ground of the RG Heidelberg and also frequently used for international games of the Germany national rugby union team. In its 2008-2010 European Nations Cup First Division campaign, Germany played three of its five home games at the stadium, the other two being held at Heusenstamm and Hanover. The stadium is in the Heidelberg-Kirchheim, Kirchheim suburb of Heidelberg and is capable of holding 5,000 spectators, 380 of them in a roofed grandstand. RG Heidelberg
The RG Heidelberg (', literally "Heidelberg Rowing Club") is a List of rugby union clubs in Germany, German rugby union club from Heidelberg, currently playing in the Rugby-Bundesliga. Apart from rugby, the club also offers the sport of Rowing (sport), rowing. History The club was formed on 4 June 1898 as a rowing club. Out of necessity to have an alternative sport in winter, frozen rivers made rowing naturally impossible, the rugby department of the club was formed in 1919. The ''RGH'' was the third rugby club to be formed in Heidelberg, after the Heidelberger RK and the SC Neuenheim, making it easy for the new team to find opposition to play against. Heidelberg-Kirchheim
Kirchheim (literally German for "Churchville") is a southern district town of the city of Heidelberg in north-west Baden-Württemberg, Germany. History First traces of a settlement here derive from vessels found dating back to 3500-1800 BC and Germanic tribes settled here during the early Roman period known as the "neckarsuebische". The town is first mentioned in the year 767 AD as Chirichheim in the Lorsch Codex. It belonged to the Kurpfalz and formed the heart of an administrative unit called Zent. The early medieval village was composed of three fields, where related settlements were combined by the formation of a central church of representatives of the "fraenisch" kingdom.
