Fresh Meat (film)
''Fresh Meat'' is a 2012 New Zealand Comedy horror, horror comedy film about a modern-day family of Māori people, Māori cannibals who are taken hostage by a gang of criminals. It stars Temuera Morrison and Kate Elliott (actress), Kate Elliot. It is Danny Mulheron's directorial debut. The film had its world premiere at the 32nd Hawaii International Film Festival on 15 October 2012. It had its New Zealand premiere on 25 October. Plot Rina Crane is a teenage student experimenting sexually with her fellow female students in the shower before being picked up from school by her father Hemi, an associate professor dissatisfied with not being made a full professor due to perceived discrimination against Māori natives. His wife, Rina's mother Margaret, is a famous and successful food guru. Danny Mulheron
Danny Mulheron is a New Zealand actor, writer, and director who has worked in theatre, television and film. Mulheron graduated from Toi Whakaari, Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School in 1983 with a Diploma in Acting. In 2012, he directed ''Fresh Meat (film), Fresh Meat'', a horror comedy film which was released in October 2012. In 2011 he directed "Rage" a television movie about the 1981 Springbok Tour, which was a Finalist in seven categories in the 2012 NZ Television Awards. In 2010 he co-wrote and directed ''The Motorcamp'' a stage play which is rumoured to have the 2nd to highest box office takings (ever) for a New Zealand play. In 2008 he co-directed with his wife and business partner, Sara Stretton, "The Third Richard" a feature-length documentary where he tells the story of his grandfather, a Jewish German composer whose music was banned by the Nazis, rejected in New Zealand and is now being rediscovered. "Puha and Pakeha" is a 1960s New Zealand novelty song, written and performed by Rod Derrett. Darkly humorous in nature, it is about Māori people in early New Zealand preparing 'boil-up' meals of pūhā (a leafy vegetable that grows in the wild) and Pākehā (New Zealanders of European descent). In 2004, a complaint was laid with the Broadcasting Standards Authority that the song was culturally insensitive to Pākehā. In its ruling, the BSA said that it could not be interpreted as such, and that it was "clearly humorous".
