Freedom And Rights
Freedom and Rights (''Libertà e Diritti'', LeD), whose complete name is Freedom and Rights – European Socialists (''Libertà e Diritti – Socialisti Europei'') as a reference to the Party of European Socialists (PES), is a democratic-socialist faction within the Democratic Party (PD), a political party in Italy. Before joining the PD in October 2014, LeD was active mainly as a sub-group within the Mixed Group in the Chamber of Deputies. LeD's leader is Gennaro Migliore. LeD, described by its members as a "movement" or "association", was launched in July 2014 upon a split from Left Ecology Freedom (SEL), the then-largest party to the left of the PD. The Party of European Socialists (PES) is a Social democracy, social democratic and Progressivism, progressive European political party. The PES comprises national-level political parties from all member states of the European Union (EU) plus Norway and the United Kingdom. This includes major parties such as the Social Democratic Party of Germany, the French Socialist Party (France), Socialist Party, the British Labour Party (UK), Labour Party, the Italian Democratic Party (Italy), Democratic Party, Socialist Party (Portugal), Romanian Socialist Democrat Party and the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party. The Chamber of Deputies ( it, Camera dei deputati) is the lower house of the bicameral Italian Parliament (the other being the Senate of the Republic). The two houses together form a perfect bicameral system, meaning they perform identical functions, but do so separately. Gennaro Migliore (born 21 June 1968 in Naples) is an Italian politician of the Italia Viva party who has served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 2006 until 2008 and again since 2013. Early life and career Migliore was born on 21 June 1968 in Naples, Campania. Since his birth, he has been living in Casoria. He graduated in Physics in 2012 at the age of 44, with a final score of 110/110 cum laude. Migliore is also registered with the journalists' register. Political career Migliore has been twice elected to the municipal council of Naples (1997 and 2001), in the ranks of the Communist Refoundation Party. In 2006 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies, and served as the parliamentary group leader of the PRC. Left Ecology Freedom ( it, Sinistra Ecologia Libertà, SEL) was a democratic socialist political party in Italy whose bulk was formed by former members of the Communist Refoundation Party. The party's leader was Nichi Vendola, a former President of Apulia. On 17 December 2016, SEL dissolved into Italian Left, which was officially launched as a party in early 2017. 2014 European Parliament Election In Italy
The 2014 European Parliament election in Italy took place on 25 May 2014. Italy elected 73 MEPs out of 751 European Parliament seats. The governing Democratic Party (PD) won the election with 40.8% of the vote and 31 seats, followed by the Five Star Movement (21.2% and 17 seats) and Forza Italia (16.8% and 13 seats). As a result, the PD was the second largest national party in the European Parliament by number of seats after the German CDU/CSU and the largest among the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. The PD's score was also the best result for an Italian party in a nationwide election since the 1958 general election, when the Christian Democracy won 42.4% of the vote. The Other Europe ( it, L'Altra Europa), whose full name was The Other Europe with Tsipras (''L'Altra Europa con Tsipras'', AET), was a left-wing political organisation in Italy. The Five Star Movement ( it, Movimento 5 Stelle , M5S) is a political party in Italy. Its leader and president is Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister of Italy from 2018 until 2021. The M5S was founded on 4 October 2009 by Beppe Grillo, a comedian and blogger, and Gianroberto Casaleggio, a web strategist.
