The Democratic Party (, PD) is a Social democracy, social democratic political party in Italy. The party's secretary is Elly Schlein, elected in the 2023 Democratic Party (Italy) leadership election, 2023 leadership election, while the party's president is Stefano Bonaccini. Elly Schlein
Elena Ethel "Elly" Schlein (; born 4 May 1985) is an Italian politician who has been serving as the secretary of the Democratic Party (Italy), Democratic Party (PD) since 12 March 2023. She is a member of Italy's Chamber of Deputies (Italy), Chamber of Deputies and was previously the vice president of Emilia-Romagna and a member of the European Parliament. On 26 February 2023, she was elected as the new List of secretaries of the Democratic Party (Italy), Democratic Party secretary with 54% of the vote, becoming the first woman to lead the party. 2023 Democratic Party (Italy) Leadership Election
The 2023 Democratic Party leadership election was a Partisan primary, primary election that was held in Italy in February 2023 to elect the National Assembly and secretary of the Italian Democratic Party (Italy), Democratic Party (PD). It consisted of a closed primary election among party members held from 9 to 19 February, and an open primary election held on 26 February. Four candidates ran in the closed primary election held in circle conventions: Stefano Bonaccini, Gianni Cuperlo, Paola De Micheli, and Elly Schlein. Bonaccini and Schlein advanced to the open primary election, where Schlein won with over 53% of the vote, becoming the first woman and the youngest person to ever serve as leader of the PD, as well as the first openly LGBT leader of a major Italian political party. Solidary Democracy (, DemoS) is a Christian-leftist political party in Italy. The party's early leader, Lorenzo Dellai has described it as a "Christian-social" party. DemoS is led by Paolo Ciani. Lucia Annunziata (born 8 August 1950) is an Italian journalist and politician. She was chairperson of RAI between 2003 and 2004.
