Freedom Is Paradise (Russian language, Russian: СЭР, acronym for Свобода Это Раи, Svoboda Eto Rai) is a 1989 Soviet cinema, Soviet Union film film director, directed by Sergei Bodrov. It won the Grand Prix des Amériques (film award), Grand Prix des Amériques, the main prize at the Montreal World Film Festival. Plot The film follows 13-year-old Sascha, a half-orphan living in a reform school for troubled children in Almaty, Alma-Ata, Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic, Kazakh SSR. Determined to find the father he has never met, Sascha repeatedly escapes from the institution, only to be caught and returned each time. During one of his attempts, he manages to travel as far as Arkhangelsk, where he locates the labor camp where his father is imprisoned. The camp commander allows Sascha to spend a single night with his father before he is sent back to the reform school the next morning. Sergei Bodrov
Sergei Vladimirovich Bodrov ( rus, Серге́й Влади́мирович Бодро́в, p=sʲɪrˈɡʲej bɐˈdrof; born 28 June 1948) is a Russian film director, screenwriter, and producer. In 2003 he was the president of the jury at the 25th Moscow International Film Festival. Life and career Bodrov was born in Khabarovsk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union (now Russia). In the post-Soviet period he emigrated to the United States. His son, actor Sergei Bodrov, Jr. was killed in an avalanche in the mountains of the North Caucasus on 20 September 2002, while shooting a film titled ''The Messenger''. Bodrov's paternal grandmother was an ethnic Buryat, which influenced his decision to make the movie ''Mongol''. His mother was Tatar, while his paternal grandfather was an ethnic Russian. The Nika Award (sometimes styled NIKA Award) is the main annual national film award in Russia, presented by the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Science, and seen as the national equivalent of the Oscars.
