Frederikssund Municipality
Frederikssund Kommune () is a municipality ( da, kommune) on the shores of Roskilde Fjord in the northern part of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. On 1 January 2007, the municipality was enlarged to include the old Jægerspris, Slangerup, and Skibby municipalities. It now covers an area of 250 km² and has a population of 44,401 (1 January 2014). As of 1 January 2014 its mayor is John Schmidt Andersen, a member of the agrarian liberal Venstre political party. Frederikssund municipality belongs to Region Hovedstaden (''Capital Region''). The seat of its municipal council is the town of Frederikssund with a population of 15,283 (1 January 2009). The town is connected to the Hornsherred peninsula by the Kronprins Frederik bridge. Slangerup
Slangerup is a town in Frederikssund Municipality, about 30 km north-west of central Copenhagen, in the Capital Region of Denmark. The town of Slangerup The town was established by the Viking Slangir at the time of Harald Bluetooth. King Eric I of Denmark (ca. 1070-July 1103), was born in Slangerup. In the 13th century the town was the scene of activities involving both Bishop Absalon and Valdemar the Great. Thomas Kingo grew up and was priest in the town during the 17th century. The municipality of Slangerup Until 1 January 2007, Slangerup was also a municipality covering an area of 46 km² with a total population of 9,237 (2005). The Capital Region of Denmark ( da, Region Hovedstaden, ) is the easternmost administrative region of Denmark. The Capital Region has 29 municipalities and a regional council consisting of 41 elected members. As of 1 August 2021 the chairperson is Lars Gaardhøj, who is a member of the Social Democrats party of Denmark. The Capital Region was established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform. This reform abolished the traditional counties (Danish plural: , singular: ) and created five regions. As part of this reform 271 smaller municipalities were merged into larger units reducing the number of municipalities to 98. Hornsherred
Hornsherred () is a peninsula between Roskilde Fjord and Isefjord on the island of Zealand in eastern Denmark. It falls within the expanded Frederikssund municipality and includes Jægerspris and Skibby and before 1 January 2007 a part of Bramsnæs Municipality, now a part of Lejre Municipality. It is connected to Frederikssund by the Kronprins Frederik bridge which was built in 1935. The area is increasingly popular as a venue for tourists with facilities for walking, cycling and sailing. Attractions Hornsherred has a variety of attractions including Jægerspris Castle, the Færgegård Museum of Local History and the walking and cycling tracks around the peninsula. There is a yachting harbour at Jægerspris. The peninsula also has a number of stone age burial sites. Eugen Jørgensen
Eugen Jørgensen (13 May 1858 – 1 September 1910) was a Danish architect and local politician. His apartment building at Strandboulevarden 35 in Copenhagen has been listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places. Other works include Østerfælled Barracks and the belongs Christian IX's Gade. Early life and education Jørgen was born on 13 May 1858 in Frederikssund, the son of Christian Erhard Jærgensen Veng (1827–1906) and Eugénie Françoise Eva Vincent (1834–1906). He graduated from Metropolitanskolen in 1875 and apprenticed as a mason before enrolling at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1877. He studied under Hans Jørgen Holm and graduated as an architect from the Academy in 1884. He won the Neuhausen Award in 1889. Regin Prenter
Regin Prenter (6 November 1907 Frederikssund – 15 December 1990) was a Danish Lutheran priest and theologian. Prenter studied theology at Copenhagen, where he belonged to the founding circle of Theologisk Oratorium and became friend of Fr Gabriel Hebert, SSM. He had candidate's degree in theology in 1931 and became priest in Hvilsager-Lime and the Aarhus Cathedral. 1935-36 he spent a year at Lincoln Theological College where he came under influence of Michael Ramsay. Later he took part in many Anglican-Lutheran conferences. During W.W.II Prenter was active in the resistance movement against the Nazis and had doctors degree in theology in 1944 about Martin Luther's theology. 1945-1972 he was professor of dogmatics at the Aarhus University. Peter Alsing Nielsen
Poul Peter Knud Augustinus Alsing Nielsen (21 May 1907 – 11 April 1985) was a Danish painter. Born in Frederikssund, he studied painting and graphic art at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1930. Initially interested in landscape painting, he depicted scenes around Kalvehave in the south of Zealand where he grew up. After moving to Copenhagen, he was attracted by subjects in the harbour area including tin shacks, piles of scrap metal or industrial buildings. As a result, he was nicknamed ''Bølgebliksmaleren'' (the corrugated iron painter). His works in subdued colour are painted with simple yet precise lines, in a somewhat abstract style. Povl Goltermann Olsen Søndergaard, usually known as Povl Søndergaard, (4 June 1905, Ringsted — 19 September 1986, Frederikssund) was a Danish sculptor. He is remembered for his lifelike busts, his female figures and for monuments such as the ''Memorial to the Fallen'' in Bispebjerg Cemetery. Oluf Pedersen (politician)
Oluf Pedersen (6 September 1891 in Lille Rørbæk near Frederikssund – 3 October 1970) was a Danish politician from the Justice Party of Denmark (''Danmarks Retsforbund''). He was a member of the Folketing 1932-45 and 1950–60 and Minister of Fishery in the cabinet of H.C. Hansen II (1957–60) and the cabinet of Viggo Kampmann I (1960). Georg Achen
Georg Nicolai Achen (23 July 1860 – 6 January 1912) was a Danish painter. One of the more accomplished Naturalists of his generation, from the 1890s he specialized in portraits. Biography Born in Frederikssund and moved with his family to Copenhagen in 1871, he was the younger brother of the architect Eggert Achen. Achen first studied painting under Vilhelm Kyhn before attending the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1877 to 1883. Thereafter he studied under P.S. Krøyer at Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler. He first exhibited at Charlottenborg in 1883 and at Den Frie in 1896. Albert Jensen
Albert Jensen (25 December 1847 – 26 June 1913) was a Danish architect. He collaborated with Ferdinand Meldahl on several projects, including the completion of Marble Church in Copenhagen and Charlottenborg Exhibition Hall. He also designed the Magasin du Nord department store on Kongens Nytorv. Early life and education Albert Jensen was born in 1847, the son of merchant Anders Jensen and Anne née Jørgensen. After his confirmation, he was sent to Copenhagen where he graduated from the Technical Institute in 1863. He was accepted into the Architecture School of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in October 1864 from where he graduated in 1879.
