Frederick Robert Buckley
F. R. Buckley (1896–1976) was an English writer. He wrote more than 200 short stories for pulp magazines between 1918 and 1953. Early and personal life He was born Frederick Robert Buckley on 20 December 1896 in Colton, Staffordshire, Colton, Staffordshire, England and died in 1976.* He was the son of R. J. Buckley (1847–1938) and Mary Wakelin. His father was music critic for the ''Birmingham Gazette'' from 1886 to 1926. Colton, Staffordshire
Colton is a village and civil parish in Lichfield (district), Lichfield District, Staffordshire, England. It is situated just outside the town of Rugeley off the B5013 road which heads towards Uttoxeter to the north. Colton is the home to Border Collie Trust GB, a registered charity rescuing and rehoming Border Collies and Collie crosses throughout the UK. The oldest building in the town is St Mary's Church, which dates back to the late 12th or early 13th century. Vitagraph Studios, also known as the Vitagraph Company of America, was a United States motion picture studio. It was founded by J. Stuart Blackton and Albert E. Smith in 1897 in Brooklyn, New York, as the American Vitagraph Company. By 1907, it was the most prolific American film production company, producing many famous silent films. It was bought by Warner Bros. in 1925. Silent Film
A silent film is a film without synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of inter- title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era, which existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in larger cities, an orchestra—would play music to accompany the films. Pianists and organists would play either from sheet music, or improvisation. Sometimes a person would even narrate the inter-title cards for the audience. Though at the time the technology to synchronize sound with the film did not exist, music was seen as an essential part of the viewing experience.
