Frederick Newton (cricketer)
Frederick Arthur Newton (16 September 1890 – 8 August 1924) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire County Cricket Club, Derbyshire between 1909 and 1919. Newton was born at Denaby Main, Yorkshire. He was an all-round sportsman and played twice as goalkeeper for Chesterfield F.C. in 1905/6 and 1906/7, and later played football for Whitwell St Lawrence. He made his cricket debut for Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1909, Derbyshire in the 1909 season in July against Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, Northamptonshire when he made 30 in his first innings. He only played one more match that season. In the Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1910, 1910 season he played a dozen matches. Denaby
Denaby is a civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England. It had a population in 2001 of 326, increasing slightly to 329 at the 2011 Census. Denaby was historically a Township (England), township within the parish of Mexborough. It became a separate civil parish in 1866. In 1921 the eastern part of the parish including Denaby Main was transferred to neighbouring Conisbrough, leaving the parish of Denaby focussed on the older village, now known as Old Denaby. Arnold Warren
Arnold Warren (2 April 1875 – 3 September 1951) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire between 1897 and 1920 and played for England in 1905. He was the first bowler from Derbyshire to take 100 wickets in a season, a feat he performed three times. Cricket career He made his debut for Derbyshire against Lancashire in May 1897. During his time at Derbyshire, he was partnered by Billy Bestwick in a dangerous fast-bowling partnership that never gained much reward because they had very small totals to bowl at. Though rarely judged a better bowler than Bestwick, it was owing to his superiority as a batsman and fieldsman that Warren gained the pair's only England cap against Australia at Headingley in 1905. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1919 was the first cricket season after a four-year break from first class cricket during World War I. The English club Derbyshire had been playing for forty-eight years with their twenty first season in the County Championship being notable that they won three matches in the County Championship to come ninth. 1919 season After the First World War, county cricket resumed in 1919 but everyone connected with the game had to put in much effort to create a very basic competition. Matches were restricted to two days to begin with, but the experiment was not repeated. Derbyshire played 14 matches in the County Championship and one against the Australian Imperial Forces. It was their eighteenth season in the County Championship and they won two matches to finish tenth in the Championship table. 1912 season Derbyshire played twenty matches, of which eighteen were in the County Championship and the others against touring South Africans and Australians. John Chapman was in his third year as captain. In one of the wettest summers on record, no players scored centuries. Samuel Cadman scored most runs, and had one of the team's two innings in the nineties. Arthur Morton took most wickets. John Chapman (cricketer, Born 1877)
John Chapman (11 March 1877 – 12 August 1956) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1909 and 1920, and captained the side from 1910 to 1912 and in 1920. Chapman was born at Frocester, Gloucestershire, the son of Charles Chapman a farmer. He was educated at Uppingham School and in 1899 was playing club cricket for the Incogniti. He also played for Sheffield Collegiate and Barnsley and captained the Yorkshire second team. He joined Derbyshire in the 1909 season, making his debut against Warwickshire when he was not out at the end of a drawn match. He played a full season and in his second match against Warwickshire made his top score of 198. In 1910 he was appointed captain and, again against Warwickshire, he made 165 while putting on 283 for the ninth wicket with Arnold Warren.
