Frederick B. Rowe
Frederick Butt Rowe (August 20, 1937 – November 19, 2021) was a Canadian politician who represented St. Barbe North from 1972 to 1975 and Trinity-Bay de Verde from 1975 to 1982 in the Newfoundland House of Assembly. The son of Frederick William Rowe and Edith Laura Butt, he was born in Wesleyville and was educated at the Curtis Academy in St. John's, at Memorial University and at Columbia University Columbia University (also known as Columbia, and officially as Columbia University in the City of New York) is a private research university in New York City. Wesleyville, Newfoundland And Labrador
Wesleyville is a small coastal community in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It is located on the Straight Shore of Bonavista Bay, on the northeast coast of Newfoundland, near the communities of Greenspond and Newtown. It was settled in the early 19th century, when residents relocated from nearby islands. History The first settlers originally lived on Swain's Island, which is often called the "parent of Wesleyville." They moved to the mainland between 1870 and 1930 to what is now called Wesleyville. Wesleyville was named in 1884 after John Wesley, one of the founders of the Methodist movement. By 1891 the population was close to 2,000. The town relied mostly on the Labrador fishery. With the decline of the fishery in the 1930s the population of Wesleyville began to decrease; there were less than 1,000 people living there by 1945. Newfoundland was a British dominion in eastern North America, today the modern Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It was established on 26 September 1907, and confirmed by the Balfour Declaration of 1926 and the Statute of Westminster of 1931. It included the island of Newfoundland, and Labrador on the continental mainland. Newfoundland was one of the original dominions within the meaning of the Balfour Declaration and accordingly enjoyed a constitutional status equivalent to the other dominions of the time. The Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly is the unicameral deliberative assembly of the General Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It meets in the Confederation Building in St. John's. Bills passed by the assembly are given royal assent by the King of Canada in Right of Newfoundland and Labrador, represented by the Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador. The governing party sits on the left side of the speaker of the House of Assembly as opposed to the traditional right side of the speaker. This tradition dates back to the 1850s as the heaters in the Colonial Building were located on the left side. Carbonear-Trinity-Bay de Verde is a provincial electoral district of the House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The district covers the eastern edge of Trinity Bay and the tip of Conception Bay. As of 2011, there are 6,968 eligible voters living within the district. James Chalker
James Ronald Chalker (October 12, 1912 – August 17, 2003) was a Canadian politician and businessperson. He represented the electoral districts of Harbour Grace and St. Barbe North in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly from 1949 to 1972. He was a member of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. The son of James Chalker and Mary Byrne, he was born at St. John's in 1912 and was educated at Bishop Feild College and St. Andrew's College in Aurora, Ontario. In 1937, he married Margaret L. Butt. Before being elected to the Newfoundland assembly in 1949, Chalker was managing director of Chalker and Co. Ltd. and Newfoundland Lime Ltd. Edward Maynard (politician)
Edward Maynard (February 22, 1939 – July 16, 2004) was a businessperson and politician in Newfoundland. He represented St. Barbe South from 1971 to 1975 and St. Barbe from 1975 to 1979 in the Newfoundland House of Assembly. The son of William Henry Maynard and Jane Mitchelmore, he was born in Green Island Brook in 1939 and was educated there and at Saint Bonaventure's College. He worked as a teacher, as a policeman, as an electronics technician and as a union organizer before entering politics. Maynard married Marlene Offery. Frederick William Rowe
Frederick William Rowe (September 28, 1912 – June 20, 1994) was a Canadian politician and Senator. Biography He was born in Lewisporte, Dominion of Newfoundland, the youngest son of Eli Rowe and Phoebe Ann Freake. He attended school at Lewisporte Methodist School, continuing his education at Prince of Wales College and the Normal Training School of Newfoundland in St. John's. In 1934, he enrolled in Memorial University College and graduated in 1936 with first class honours. After graduating, he became a teacher in Bishop's Falls and then in Bonne Bay, where he met his future wife, Edith Laura Butt. Rowe married her on December 25, 1936. They had four sons: Frederick, Stanley, William, and George. Rowe also taught in Lewisporte and Wesleyville, Newfoundland and Labrador before attending Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree and the O.
