Freddie Webb
Freddie Nelle Webb (born November 24, 1942) is a Filipino retired basketball player and coach, former politician, and television and radio personality. Education He completed his elementary education at San Beda College and his degree in Bachelor of Arts in English at Colegio de San Juan de Letran. Personal life He is married to Elizabeth Pagaspas of Tanauan, Batangas with whom he has six children, among them Hubert, Pinky, and Jason Webb. Basketball career Webb first played for the Letran Knights (1960–1964) and became a star for the team. After college, he played in the MICAA with the YCO Painters (1965–1975) and in the PBA with the Tanduay Rhum Makers (1976–1978). He was a member of the national basketball team that participated in the 1972 Summer Olympics. After retiring in 1978, Webb coached YCO-Tanduay (1981–1983) and Shell (1985) in the Philippine Basketball Association. Jason Pagaspas Webb (born September 23, 1973) is a Filipino basketball coach and former basketball player. Playing career Webb played collegiate basketball for the De La Salle Green Archers from 1991 to 1995. After college, he played for Stag/Tanduay in the Philippine Basketball League (1995-1997). Webb began his PBA career in 1997 with the Sta. Lucia Realtors. After two seasons, he played for the Tanduay Rhum Masters (1999-2001). TV commentator Webb was a color commentator/game analyst for PBA on Sports5 from 2011 to 2014. Webb return as color commentator/game analyst for UAAP from 2021 to present. Basketball contests at the 1972 Summer Olympics was the eighth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle in Munich, Germany from August 27 to September 9. The Soviet Union controversially won the gold medal game against the United States. This was the first time that the United States did not win a gold medal since the sport's introduction into the Olympics at the 1936 Berlin Summer Games. The Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA) was a sports association which existed in Manila, Philippines from 1938 to 1981. Throughout its existence, it staged various sports and was participated by prominent Philippine companies. After World War II, its basketball tournament became the country's premier basketball league until 1975, when nine of its members broke away to form the very first professional basketball league in Asia, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Tanduay Rhum Masters
The Tanduay Rhum Makers (1975–1987) and Tanduay Rhum Masters (1999–2001) were two basketball franchises associated with the same Tanduay Distillers liquor brand that played in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The original franchise, owned by Elizalde & Co., Inc., was a founding member of the PBA. From 1975-1980, the team played under the name Tanduay Distillery; Tanduay ESQ and Tanduay Esquires; then as, YCO-Tanduay in 1981-1983. YCO Painters
The YCO Painters were the multi-titled Filipino basketball team of the YCO Athletic Club that was active from the late 1940s to 1981 in the now-defunct Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA). YCO Athletic Club was founded by businessman and sportsman Manuel “Manolo” Elizalde and owned under his company Elizalde & Co., Inc., manufacturers of YCO floor wax and paints. The Painters were known as the first basketball dynasty in the Philippines, having dominated MICAA and BAP tournaments during the 1950s to early 1960s.
