Fred Tobias
Fred Tobias (March 25, 1928, New York City – May 20, 2021, Naples, Florida) was an American songwriter, who was most prominent in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Tobias' songs have been performed by numerous performers, including Elvis Presley, Bobby Rydell, The Poni-Tails, Patti Page, Susan Maughan, Hank Locklin, Jimmy Jones, Roy Orbison, k.d. Lang, Showaddywaddy and Ricky Nelson. His most successful songs were " Good Timin' by Jimmy Jones, " Little Bitty Girl" by Bobby Rydell, "Johnny Will" by Pat Boone and "Hello, This is Joanie" by Paul Evans. His song " Born Too Late" by the Poni-Tails reached number 7 in the US and number 5 in the UK in 1958. His " Blue River" co-written with Paul Evans was performed by Elvis Presley in 1966, reaching number 22 in the UK charts. Tobias worked with several other composers including Lee Pockriss, Charles Strouse, Burt Bacharach, Clint Ballard Jr., Stanley Lebowsky and Paul Evans. ''Fosse'' is a three-act musical revue showcasing the choreography of Bob Fosse. The musical was conceived by Richard Maltby Jr., Chet Walker, and Ann Reinking. Concept and development The first idea for ''Fosse'' was conceived by Chet Walker, who was in many of Bob Fosse's shows and served as dance captain. Walker began workshops in New York City, where he hired numerous dancers to begin the process of putting the numerous pieces of choreography on its feet. Livent, a Canadian-based theatrical production company, was the producer of workshops and also the pre-Broadway tour. ''Fosse'' started its tour in Toronto. ''Gantry'' is a musical with a book by Peter Bellwood, lyrics by Fred Tobias, and music by Stanley Lebowsky. ''All That Jazz'' is a 1979 American musical drama film directed by Bob Fosse and starring Roy Scheider as an obsessive film and stage director. It is a semi-autobiographical fantasy based on aspects of Fosse's life and career as a dancer, choreographer and filmmaker. It was also the final work of its producer Robert Alan Aurthur, who wrote the screenplay with Fosse and died a year before its release. The story draws from Fosse's experience editing his 1974 film '' Lenny'' while simultaneously staging the Broadway musical ''Chicago'', which he directed, choreographed and co-wrote. Like Fosse, Scheider's character attempts to stage an ambitious Broadway musical while supervising the editing of a film he directed and which, like ''Lenny'', centers around a stand-up comedian. Stanley Lebowsky (; November 26, 1926 – October 19, 1986) was a Hollywood and Broadway composer, lyricist, conductor and music director who conducted more than a dozen Broadway musicals including ''Chicago'', '' Half a Sixpence'', ''Irma La Douce'', ''Jesus Christ Superstar'', '' Pippin'', '' The 1940's Radio Hour'', and '' The Act''. Burt Freeman Bacharach ( ; May 12, 1928 – February 8, 2023) was an American composer, songwriter, record producer, and pianist who is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential figures of 20th-century popular music.
