Fred Harrison (born 1944) is a British author, economist, economic commentator, and corporate policy advisor, notable for his stances on land reform and belief that an overreliance on land, property, and mortgages weakens economic structures and makes companies vulnerable to economic collapse. Dirk Bezemer, a professor of economics at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, noted that Harrison was one of the earliest to have predicted the 2008 financial crisis. In 2005 Harrison commented: "The next property market tipping point is due at end of 2007 or early 2008 ... The only way prices can be brought back to affordable levels is a slump or recession." Frederick Harrison (2 July 1880 – 21 November 1969) was an English professional footballer who played as a forward for various clubs in the 1900s and 1910s. Playing career Southampton Born in Winchester, he started his career with local sides Fitzhugh Rovers and Bitterne Guild in Southampton often playing in matches on Southampton Common where he was spotted by Joe Turner who recommended him to the Southampton directors as a "fast goal-getter with a deadly shot". He made his debut for the "Saints" in the penultimate match of the 1900–01 Southern League championship season and during the summer he accompanied the team on their first foreign tour of Belgium, Austria and Hungary which was a great success with 44 goals scored (for 3 against) in six matches. Frederick Harrison (railway Manager)
Lieutenant Colonel Sir Frederick Harrison (184431 December 1914) was railway manager and an officer in the British Army's Engineer and Railway Volunteer Staff Corps. Harrison was born in Croydon, Surrey, the son of George Harrison of Newport, Monmouthshire. At the age of twenty, Harrison became a clerk on the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) at Shrewsbury. He rose through the ranks, working at Euston under George Findlay, the General Goods Manager; a later post was that of Assistant District Superintendent at Liverpool, and in 1874 he moved to the equivalent job at Chester. He remained there for a year before, aged 31, becoming Assistant Superintendent of the Line. Ten years after this he was appointed Chief Goods Manager of the LNWR. His next promotion was in 1893, when he became General Manager of the LNWR, a post he held until the end of 1908.
