Fred Burr
Frederick Arthur Burr (February 26, 1911 – January 17, 2006) was a politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a New Democratic member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1967 to 1977 who represented the ridings of Sandwich-Riverside and Windsor—Riverside. Background Born in Middlesex County, Ontario, to Arthur Edward Burr and Emily Rose Vernon, Burr had a long career as a high school teacher at Walkerville Collegiate Institute where he taught Latin and Greek for 34 years. His son, Dave Burr served one term as the mayor of Windsor, Ontario. In addition to his son, Burr had two daughters, Sheila and Maureen, and was pre-deceased by his wife, Dorothy. Essex West
Essex West was a federal electoral district in the province of Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1925 to 1968. This riding was created in 1924 from parts of Essex North riding. It was initially defined to consist of the city of Windsor, the town of Sandwich and the townships of East and West Sandwich in the county of Essex, including the towns of Ford City and Walkerville, or the villages of Riverside, Tecumseh and St. Clair Shores. In 1933, it was redefined to consist of the township of Sandwich West in the county of Essex including the town of Sandwich and the part of the city of Windsor lying north of Tecumseh Road. 1945 Canadian Federal Election
The 1945 Canadian federal election was held on June 11, 1945, to elect members of the House of Commons of the 20th Parliament of Canada. Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King's Liberal government was re-elected to its third consecutive term, although this time with a minority government as the Liberals fell five seats short of a majority. Since 1939, Canada had been fighting in World War II. In May 1945, the war in Europe ended, allowing King to call an election. As the war in Asia was still raging on, King promised a voluntary force to fight in Operation Downfall, the planned invasion of Japan, while Progressive Conservative Party (PC Party) leader John Bracken promised conscription, which was an unpopular proposal and led to the PCs' third consecutive defeat. Dave Cooke
Dave Cooke (born August 1, 1952) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was an NDP member of the provincial legislature from 1977 to 1997, and was a senior cabinet minister in the government of Bob Rae. Background Cooke was born in Windsor, Ontario, the son of Sid and Betty Cooke. He attended the University of Windsor and graduated with a degree in social work. Walkerville Collegiate Institute (WCI) is a secondary school (grades 9 to 12) in the Walkerville area of Windsor, Ontario and managed by the Greater Essex County District School Board.
