Frederick William Burns
Frederick William Burns (July 7, 1860 – June 21, 1923) was an American professional sports announcer. He is the earliest known sports announcer credited with creating the profession at the Staten Island Athletic Club games in 1884. Early years Burns was born in Brooklyn on July 7, 1860 to Scottish immigrants. His father, Archimedes Burns, was a Scotsman who immigrated from Ireland. Both he and his brother, Euclid Garfield Burns, were born in Ireland at 10 Dobbin Street in Armagh. Archimedes and Euclid traveled through India and Africa prior to entering the United States about 1856. Archimedes and his brother began a plumbing business in Brooklyn which they managed together until Archimedes's sudden death prior to 1860 leaving Fred without a father prior to the age of 9. His mother, Agnes Alderdice Wemyss-Burns (née MacIlvine), came to the United States in 1842 at the age of 12. Fred Burns (tennis)
Frederick D. Burns (September 6, 1889, in Nevada, Missouri – December 22, 1971, in Cincinnati, Ohio) was an important figure in Midwest amateur tennis in the early part of the 20th century. Burns was a journalist by profession from 1911 to 1958, and in the 1920s was a writer for ''The Cincinnati Times-Star'' (which was absorbed by the Cincinnati Post in the 1950s). He wrote about tennis, and played the game, including playing in the National Clay Court Championships in 1915 and Cincinnati's own international tennis tournament, now known as the Cincinnati Masters The Cincinnati Open (also known as the Cincinnati Masters) is an annual professional tennis event held in Cincinnati, United States. 1913 USA Indoor Track And Field Championships
The 1913 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships were organized by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and served as the national championships in indoor track and field for the United States. The men's championships were held at the 22nd Regiment Armory in New York City, New York, and they took place March 6. Women's championships were not officially held until 1927. Fred Burns (actor)
Fred Burns (April 24, 1878 – July 18, 1955) was an American actor who mainly appeared in Western films. He appeared in over 265 films before his death in 1955. Biography Fred Burns was born on April 24, 1878, in Fort Keogh, Montana. For six years, he was in charge of Buffalo Bill Cody's ranch near Cheyenne, Wyoming. He " broke" wild mustangs for Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. He traveled with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, and later with the 101 Ranch Wild West Show. Burns was a roping champion for five years in the early 1900s. By 1916, he had moved to Hollywood to work in movies full-time. He appeared in 23 movies between 1921 and 1930, and 91 movies during the sound era. He also was in charge of the stock at Fine Arts Studios. Burns died in Los Angeles, California, on July 18, 1955, at age 77.
