Fred Beato
Fred Beato (born 1952) is a Cuban-American musician known for being one of the participants of Operation Peter Pan, owner of Beato Bags and drummer of Beato Band with former Ambrosia singer David Pack. Early life After the Cuban Revolution in January 1959, many Cubans feared that the government would take their children away from them, which caused many Cubans, like Fred’s parents, to send their child to the United States under the US government sponsored program “Operation Peter Pan”. Career Music Symbols of Tyme In high school, Fred formed a rock band with his Torrance High School classmates and former Ambrosia front-man David Pack. They would later win the national Battle of The Bands in 1968, held in Atlantic City, NJ. Operation Peter Pan
Operation Peter Pan (or Operación Pedro Pan) was a clandestine exodus of over 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban minors ages 6 to 18 to the United States over a two-year span from 1960 to 1962. They were sent by parents who feared, on the basis of unsubstantiated rumors propagated by the US, that Fidel Castro and the Communist party were planning to terminate parental rights and place minors in alleged "communist indoctrination centers", commonly referred to as the ''Patria Potestad''. No such actions by the Castro regime ever took place. The program consisted of two main components: the mass transportation of Cuban children via airplane to the United States – Miami as a particularly common hub – and the programs set up to care for them once they arrived. Ambrosia (band)
Ambrosia is an American rock music, rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1970. Ambrosia had five Top 40 hit singles released between 1975 and 1980, including the Top 5 hits "How Much I Feel" and "Biggest Part of Me", and Top 20 hits "You're the Only Woman (You & I)" and "Holdin' on to Yesterday". Most of the original band members have been active with the group continuously since their 1989 reformation to the present day, with the notable exception of original guitarist and lead vocalist David Pack who left in 2000. Ambrosia currently tours internationally and has worked in the past and present with Alan Parsons, Bruce Hornsby, Bill Champlin, Michael McDonald (singer), Michael McDonald, and Peter Beckett among other notable artists. David Pack
David Robert Pack (born July 15, 1952) is an American singer and musician best known as co-founder, lead vocalist, and guitarist of the rock band Ambrosia (band), Ambrosia in the 1970s and 80s. Pack wrote and sang most of Ambrosia’s biggest hits, including “Biggest Part of Me”, “You're the Only Woman (You & I)”, and “How Much I Feel”. In the mid 90’s Pack produced Ambrosia’s Anthology CD on Warner Bros. (Best of) along with three new tracks. These included “I Just Can’t Let Go” with James Ingram & Michael McDonald remixed from Pack’s Solo Album in 1986 (a top 15 Billboard Hit). Pack stopped touring with the band in 2000, after they played a concert in Atlantic City without him while he was on vacation with his family, fraudulently advertising that Pack would be performing. Joe Porcaro
Joseph Thomas Porcaro (April 29, 1930 – July 6, 2020) was an American jazz drummer. Biography Personal life The Porcaro family is, on the paternal side, originally from San Luca, an Aspromonte village in the province of Reggio Calabria. Joe Porcaro, a well-known jazz drummer and percussionist, born in Hartford, Connecticut to Mike, an Italian immigrant from San Luca, Calabria, and a mother from Caserta, Campania. The couple had moved to the US in the early twentieth century. Grandfather Mike was himself a percussionist who played with numerous Italian bands based in the U.S., and it is with him that the family musical tradition began, passed on to his son Joe and then to his three famous grandchildren. Albert Harry Schmitt (April 17, 1930 – April 26, 2021) was an American recording engineer and record producer. He won twenty Grammy Awards for his work with Henry Mancini, Steely Dan, George Benson, Toto (band), Toto, Natalie Cole, Quincy Jones, and others. He also won 2 Latin Grammys, and a Trustees Grammy for Lifetime Achievement. Biography Early career Schmitt grew up in New York City and lived in Brooklyn until the late 1940s.
