The ''Freaky Friday'' franchise consists of American family comedies, including the original theatrical film, two made-for-television standalone sequels, a television movie adaptation, the theatrical remake, a Broadway musical, and the Disney Channel Original Movie adaptation of that stage production. The franchise as a whole centers around body swapping between parents and their children, who initially find they cannot agree on anything. Over the course of each respective installment, they individually find that they have respect for each other and they gain a better understanding of the other person. The original 1976 film was met with positive reviews. The two television movie sequels were met with negative reception overall, while the 1995 television film adaptation was also poorly received, by critics and viewers alike. ''Freaky Friday'' is a comedic children's novel written by Mary Rodgers, first published by Harper & Row in 1972. The plot is set in a day in the life of 13-year-old Annabel Andrews and her mother, who spend one Friday in each other's bodies. The novel has been adapted for several films, all by the Walt Disney Company and all with the same title as the book: one in 1976, one in 1995, one in 2003 and one in 2018. In 2025, ''Freaky Friday'' was reissued to commemorate '' Freakier Friday'', the upcoming sequel to the 2003 film adaptation of the novel. Jordan Weiss (born January 28, 1993) is an American writer, director and producer. She created and produced the Hulu series ''Dollface'' starring Kat Dennings, which premiered in November 2019.
