François Sangalli
François Sangalli (born 8 September 1952) is a French former rugby union international. Born to Italian immigrants in Narbonne, Sangalli was capped 15 times for France national rugby union team, France as a centre, debuting in 1975. He toured South Africa in his first year with the national side and had a significant role in France's 1977 Five Nations grand slam, with his 46th-minute try proving the difference in the 4–3 win over England at Twickenham. Sangalli has had a long association with RC Narbonne, where he spent his entire playing career, the highlight of which was a Brennus Shield win in 1979. He served as club president during the early 1990s. Narbonne ( , , ; ; ; Late Latin:) is a commune in Southern France in the Occitanie region. It lies from Paris in the Aude department, of which it is a sub-prefecture. It is located about from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and was historically a prosperous port. From the 14th century it declined following a change in the course of the river Aude. While it is the largest commune in Aude, the capital of the Aude department is the smaller commune of Carcassonne. Brennus Shield
The Bouclier de Brennus (), or Brennus Shield in English, is a trophy awarded annually to the French rugby union club that wins the domestic league. The shield was not named, as it is often believed, after the famous Gallic warrior Brennus but rather artist Charles Brennus, co-founder of the Union des sociétés françaises de sports athlétiques (USFSA), the original governing body of rugby union in France. Charles Brennus sculpted the shield himself in 1892, based on an original design from his friend and fellow USFSA co-founder Pierre de Coubertin, the man who founded the modern Olympic Games.
