Franz Holzweber
Franz Holzweber (20 November 1904 – 31 July 1934) was an Austrian National Socialist who was an accomplice to the assassination of the Chancellor of Austria, Engelbert Dollfuß, during the July Putsch in 1934. Biography Holzweber was a trained electrical engineer and Protestant. He later married and had a child. At the time of the July Putsch, he lived in Mauer, Vienna. Holzweber joined the Nazi Party (member number 300,248) on 8 October 1930. He served as a sergeant in the Bundesheer from 1931 to 1933, when he was discharged for his involvement in Nazism. With the codename "Captain Friedrich", Holzweber was a leader of the putschists during the raid on the Federal Chancellery on the day of the July Putsch on 25 July 1934. The Austrian Armed Forces (german: Bundesheer, lit=Federal Army) are the combined military forces of the Republic of Austria. The military consists of 22,050 active-duty personnel and 125,600 reservists. The military budget is 0.74% of national GDP or €2.85 billion. History Between 1918 and 1920, the Austrian semi-regular army was called ("People's Defence"), and fought against Yugoslavian army units occupying parts of Carinthia. It has been known as "Bundesheer" since then, except when Austria was a part of Nazi Germany (1938–1945; see Anschluss). Otto Planetta
Otto Planetta (2 August 1899 – 31 July 1934) was an Austrian National Socialist who assassinated the Chancellor of Austria, Engelbert Dollfuß, in 1934. Biography Planetta was born into a Catholic family in Wischau, Austria-Hungary (now Vyskov, Czech Republic) in 1899. In 1916 he volunteered for military service in the Austro-Hungarian Army. After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in 1918 at the end of World War I, he joined the Volkswehr, then the Gendarmerie as well as the Bundesheer, the successor of the Volkswehr after 1920. His last military rank was that of staff sergeant. By trade he was a retail salesman. At the time of his death he was married but had no children and lived on Laxenburger Street in Favoriten, the 10th district of Vienna.
