Franz-Josef Lässer
Franz-Josef Lässer (born 17 January 2001) is an Austrian para-cyclist who competes in road and track events. He represented Austria at the 2024 Summer Paralympics. Career In March 2024, Lässer represented Austria at the 2024 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships and won silver medals in the scratch race and omnium, and a bronze medal in the individual pursuit C5 events. In September 2024, he then competed at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in track cycling and finished in fourth place in the individual pursuit C5 event, and 12th place in the time trial C4–5 event. C5 (classification)
C5 is a para-cycling classification. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) recommends this be coded as MC5 or WC5. Definition PBS defined this classification as "Cyclists with least impairment, including single amputation and minimal neurological disfunction." Classification history Cycling first became a Paralympic sport at the 1988 Summer Paralympics. In September 2006, governance for para-cycling passed from the International Paralympic Committee's International Cycling Committee to UCI at a meeting in Switzerland. When this happened, the responsibility of classifying the sport also changed. Cycling At The 2024 Summer Paralympics – Men's Pursuit C5
The men's individual pursuit class C5 track cycling event at the 2024 Summer Paralympics took place on 31 August 2024 at the Vélodrome National. Competition format The C category is for cyclists with a physical impairment (muscle power or range of motion, and impairments affecting the coordination) that prevents them from competing in able-bodied competition but still competes using a standard bicycle. The competition starts with a qualifying round where it comprises a head-to-head race between the 14 cyclists. The 2 fastest cyclists in the qualifying would qualify to the gold medal final while the 3rd and 4th fastest will qualify to the bronze medal final where they will race head-to-head. Cycling At The 2024 Summer Paralympics – Road Cycling
Road Cycling at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, France, took place at Clichy-sous-Bois from 4 to 7 September. 34 events were held over three disciplines: road race, road time trial and mixed team relay (handbikes only). Events were held on tandem bicycles for visually impaired cyclists (B), tricycles (T1-2), handbikes (H1-5) and standard bicycles (C1-5). A number of the events were composite classification events for multiple classes. In the time trials only, such events were subject to factoring, whereby finishing times were adjusted by a standardised percentage to allow fair competition between classes. The overall race programme was unchanged from 2021 in Tokyo. Qualification The qualification period for road cycling started from 1 January 2022 to 30 June 2024.
