Frantic Freddie
''Frantic Freddie'' is a 1983 platform game for the Commodore 64 written by Kris Hatlelid and Gregor Larson and published by Commercial Data Systems. Gameplay The player uses a joystick to control the eponymous Frantic Freddie, a telephone line engineer. Each level takes place on a single screen, each with five full-width platforms connected by telegraph poles. Freddie runs along the platforms; he cannot pass through the telegraph poles but may climb up and down either side of them. The goal of the game is to collect the pots of gold resting on the platforms, as well as optional bonus items which scroll through the playing area. Each level is patrolled by three to five monstrous "Greeblies" that Freddie must avoid, lest he lose a life. The game has a total of sixteen playable levels punctuated by animated intermission sequences. The 17th level has a game breaking bug, as this level mistakenly has all poles removed. Commercial Data Systems, Ltd. (CDS) was a software publisher and technology company based in Emerald Park, Saskatchewan. In the 1980s, CDS was primarily involved in the production of computer games for 8-bit computers such as the Commodore 64. The best-known and most original of these was ''Frantic Freddie'', which combined fast-paced arcade play with an addictive soundtrack of pop tunes arranged by Kris Hatlelid. Most of their other offerings were either sports simulations or clones of popular arcade games such as ''Joust (arcade game), Joust'' (''Pegasis (video game), Pegasis'') and ''Frogger'' (''Froggee''/''Road Toad''). CDS stopped publishing games around 1990. As of the late 1990s, it shifted its business focus to Consultant, consulting. The company was dissolved in May 2010. A Fifth Of Beethoven
"A Fifth of Beethoven" is a disco instrumental recorded by Walter Murphy and the Big Apple Band, adapted from the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. The record was produced by production music and sound effects recording producer Thomas J. Valentino. The "Fifth" in the song's title is a pun, referencing a liquid measure approximately equal to one-fifth of a gallon, a popular size for bottles containing liquor, as well as Beethoven's Fifth Symphony from which the song was adapted. Released as a single by Private Stock Records in 1976, the song debuted at number 80 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart and climbed to number 1 within 19 weeks, remaining there for one week. In 1977, it was licensed to RSO Records for inclusion on the best-selling '' Saturday Night Fever'' soundtrack. The song is one of Murphy's few Top 40 hits. ''ACE'' (''Advanced Computer Entertainment'') is a discontinued multi-format computer and video game magazine, first published in the United Kingdom by Future Publishing and later acquired by EMAP.
